Make Your Mark:

The Product Marketing Director of Competitive Intelligence will lead BlackLine's competitive intelligence function, ensuring the company maintains a sharp, data-driven perspective on the competitive landscape. This leader will set the vision for competitive strategy, oversee intelligence gathering and analysis, and provide actionable insights that drive market differentiation and strategic decision-making.

In this high-visibility, strategic role, the Director of Competitive Intelligence will work cross-functionally with product marketing, sales enablement, sales SWAT teams, product & technology, and executive teams. They will build and execute a best-in-class competitive intelligence program, ensuring BlackLine's go-to-market (GTM) teams have the insights, tools, and training they need to win in a dynamic and evolving market.

The ideal candidate has 7-10+ years of competitive intelligence experience in B2B enterprise software, with a strong background in market research, product marketing, and strategic analysis.

You'll Get To:

Competitive Intelligence Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute BlackLine's competitive intelligence strategy to proactively track market shifts, competitor actions, and industry trends.
  • Establish a competitive intelligence framework that aligns with BlackLine's business goals and GTM strategy.
  • Act as the strategic advisor on competitive dynamics to senior executives, sales leaders, and product management.

Competitive Research & Insights

  • Build and oversee a scalable process for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on key competitors, including emerging players, market disruptors, and shifts in buyer behavior.
  • Lead and/or direct primary and secondary research efforts, including win/loss analysis, customer interviews, and data-driven competitor benchmarking.
  • Ensure intelligence is turned into actionable insights that influence product strategy, sales execution, and marketing initiatives.

Sales & Marketing Enablement

  • Deliver high-impact competitive enablement materials, including battlecards, talk tracks, objection handling guides, and market trend reports.
  • Partner with sales enablement and product marketing to embed competitive insights into sales training, helping teams articulate BlackLine's differentiation.
  • Provide real-time competitive insights to frontline sales teams, helping drive deal success and improve win rates.

Competitive Intelligence Infrastructure & Processes

  • Establish and oversee tools, platforms, and processes for efficient intelligence gathering, analysis, and distribution.
  • Manage the operational cadence of competitive intelligence reporting, ensuring key stakeholders receive timely, relevant insights.
  • Drive a culture of intelligence-sharing across GTM teams, ensuring insights flow across sales, marketing, and product organizations.

Cross-Functional Influence & Thought Leadership

  • Partner closely with product management to provide intelligence that informs roadmap decisions and innovation strategy.
  • Serve as a key internal spokesperson for competitive intelligence, presenting insights to executive leadership and company-wide teams.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and competitive moves, positioning BlackLine as the market leader in Future-Ready Financial Operations.
  • Supervise others work through the planning and scheduling of work, and review and approval.
  • Provide limited supervision to others through motivation, direction, review and feedback of assigned tasks.
  • Prioritization of competitive intelligence work and projects and assignment of project tasks across the team

What You'll Bring:

  • 7+ years of competitive intelligence experience in B2B software.
  • 10+ years of total professional experience, ideally in product marketing, strategy, or related fields.
  • Strong program management and leadership skills (indirect team leadership experience preferred).
  • Expertise in competitive analysis frameworks, win/loss programs, and market intelligence tools.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills-able to turn data into insights and insights into action.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales, marketing, product, and leadership teams.
  • Proficiency with competitive intelligence platforms, CRM, and analytics tools.

Salary Range:

USD $201,000.00 - USD $252,000.00

Pay Transparency Statement:

Placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant's prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine also offers short-term and long-term incentive programs, based on eligibility, along with a robust offering of benefit and wellness plans.
