At BlackLine, Principal Engineers are both visionary leaders and hands-on builders. As BlackLine's most senior individual contributors, Principal Security Engineers work on our hardest problems.

Principal Security Engineers at BlackLine have broad experience solving complex and highly exposed cyber security issues, as well as leading teams across security disciplines including penetration testing, security operations, encryption, or identity and access management. They need a deep understanding of the inner workings of the security department's software and how these applications are effective against external threats, both for BlackLine and our external customers. They are "the point of contact" for various external customers when it comes to information security matters. A Principal Security Engineer can answer questions like "how are our customers protected by adversary threats, and how do we continue to research and modernized our efforts against these potential coercions."

You'll Get To:

Security Strategy & Architecture

  • Develop and implement the organization's security architecture and frameworks, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Lead threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and risk analysis to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Advise on security controls and technology strategies for on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to security team members and other engineering teams.
  • Lead the design and deployment of advanced security tools and solutions, including SIEMPAM, Cloud Security, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and threat intelligence platforms.
  • Conduct research on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends to recommend proactive security measures.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Partner with DevOps, IT, and engineering teams to integrate security best practices into development lifecycles (e.g., DevSecOps).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and industry standards, such as ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and SOC 2.
  • Serve as a security advocate, educating teams and stakeholders on best practices and policies.

Metrics & Reporting

  • Define and track security KPIs and metrics, presenting regular updates to leadership on the organization's security posture.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of security processes, policies, and systems.

What You'll Bring:

  • 15+ years of experience in cybersecurity roles, including 5+ years in a senior or principal engineering position.
  • Expertise in securing cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, cryptography, identity and access management, and secure application development.
  • Hands-on experience with security tools and frameworks (e.g., SIEMs, firewalls, vulnerability scanners).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and industry best practices.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.

We're Even More Excited If You Have:

  • Advanced certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or CEH.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and tools in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML in security contexts.
  • Previous experience in mentoring or managing security teams.

Salary Range:

USD $213,000.00 - USD $267,000.00

Pay Transparency Statement:

Placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant's prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine also offers short-term and long-term incentive programs, based on eligibility, along with a robust offering of benefit and wellness plans.
