Make Your Mark:

As an Associate General Counsel, Global Employment, you will play a critical role in ensuring legal compliance and providing strategic guidance on employment-related matters within our organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, you will manage a wide range of global employment law issues, from compliance and policy development to dispute resolution and litigation. This position requires a deep understanding of employment laws and regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to provide proactive and practical legal advice to support our business objectives.

You'll Get To:

  • Legal Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with global employment laws and regulations where BlackLine operates.
  • Policy Development: Develop, review, and update employment policies and procedures to align with legal requirements and best practices in partnership with our Compliance and HR teams.
  • Advice and Counsel: Provide expert legal advice and counsel to HR professionals, management, and other stakeholders on complex employment law issues, including hiring practices, employee relations, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, and terminations.
  • Collective Employment Matters: Ensure compliance and provide expert legal advice and counsel regarding collective employment matters (such as works councils and other employee representative bodies) in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Litigation Management: Manage employment-related litigation and pre-litigation matters globally, including responding to demand letters and negotiating settlements, oversight of outside counsel, reviewing pleadings, responding to discovery, case strategy, and representing the company in employment-related administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and court hearings.
  • M&A Support: Provide support for M&A activities relating to employment matters, including due diligence, transaction negotiation and integration efforts.
  • Training and Education: Develop and conduct training programs for managers and employees on employment law compliance and best practices in partnership with our Talent Development team.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate legal risks associated with employment-related decisions and company policies.
  • Policy Advocacy: Stay abreast of legislative and regulatory developments affecting employment law.
  • Contract Review: Draft, review and negotiate employment-related agreements and contracts.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with members of our Legal team in partnership with our Deputy GCs and with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, and Information Security, to provide integrated legal advice and support.
  • Candidates must be able to work on a hybrid schedule 2 days in office per week in either our Woodland Hills, Pleasanton, or NYC offices.

What You'll Bring:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the state bar.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience practicing employment law, with a focus on counseling and litigation.
  • In-depth knowledge of US federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • At least working knowledge of international employment laws and regulations, particularly in the UK and EU jurisdictions.
  • Proven track record resolving disputes and managing complex employment litigation matters in the US and internationally.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice.
  • A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Salary Range:

USD $210,100.00 - USD $278,300.00

Pay Transparency Statement:

Placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant's prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine also offers short-term and long-term incentive programs, based on eligibility, along with a robust offering of benefit and wellness plans.
