About the SPRUCE IDIQ:
The SPRUCE IDIQ is a $2.4 billion contract vehicle awarded by the Department of Veterans Affairs to acquire digital products and services that facilitate better user experiences. It encompasses five technical functional areas: software development and operations, technical advising and architecture planning, service design and user research studies, data science and analytics, and product support operations.
What will you do?
We are seeking a UX Researcher to support the Secure, Performant, Reliable, and User-Centered Experiences (SPRUCE) IDIQ contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this role you will be responsible for planning, conducting, and analyzing user research to inform the design of digital products and services design and strategy for government clients.
Important note
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. While the role has a fixed duration, we are committed to transparency and collaboration, keeping you informed about contract updates and new opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand user needs and business requirements, and translating them into research objectives and questions
- Designing and conducting various research methods such as interviews, surveys, usability testing, and ethnographic studies to collect qualitative and quantitative data
- Analyzing and synthesizing research findings into actionable insights and recommendations that inform design decisions and improve the user experience
- Communicating research findings to cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients through reports, presentations, and other methods, to help build understanding and guide delivery
- Developing and maintaining research plans, protocols, and documentation that ensure research quality, rigor, and ethical standards
- Contributing to the development of research frameworks, principles, and guidelines that enable consistency and scalability across multiple products and services
- Staying up-to-date with the latest research trends, tools, and techniques, and sharing knowledge with the team to promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in a relevant field, plus at least three years of related experience
- Demonstrated experience in UX research or human-computer interaction, preferably in a federal contracting environment
- Proficiency in research methods such as interviews, surveys, usability testing, and ethnographic studies
- Understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze and synthesize complex data into actionable insights and recommendations
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
Nice to haves
- Experience working with VA, federal agencies, or public sector digital services
- Familiarity with VA.gov development guidelines, VA Design System, and U.S. Digital Services Playbook
- Background in behavioral science, accessibility research, or human-computer interaction (HCI)
- Proficiency in Figma, Miro, Adobe XD, or other design and prototyping tools
