We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal UI Designer with a strong focus
on design systems and understanding of USWDS.

Location
This role can work remotely from anywhere in the USA. You must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.  
 
What Will You Do?
As a Principal UI Designer, you will be subject matter expert responsible for leading the development and implementation of our design strategy, as well as providing design leadership and guidance to the UI design team. You will work closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure that our design solutions meet their needs and align with their brand and visual identity guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of our design strategy, including creating and maintaining design guidelines, component libraries, and pattern libraries.
  • Provide design leadership and guidance to the UI design team, ensuring that our design solutions are cohesive, consistent, and meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UX designers, developers, and project managers, to ensure that our design solutions are user-centered, accessible, and meet technical requirements.
  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand their business objectives, brand guidelines, and visual identity requirements, and ensure that our design solutions align with their goals.
  • Overseeing the creation of design deliverables, including UI components, layouts, interactions, and prototypes, and ensuring that designs are implemented according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Participating in business development activities, including proposal development and client presentations, and maintaining relationships with existing clients.
  • Contributing to the development of design strategies that drive innovation and competitive differentiation, and that help us expand our offerings and market presence in the federal space.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in Design Systems, USWDS, and UI design, and share knowledge and insights with the team and clients.
  • Act as a design team leader on projects, working with project managers to ensure that design projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of clients.
  • Providing thought leadership on UI design trends and best practices, and advocating for the importance of user-centered design in all our design projects.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in UI design, graphic design, human-computer interaction, or a related field.
  • 8+  years of experience in UI design preferably in a federal consulting or government environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire, and guide a team of designers to deliver high-quality work.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Understanding of HTML/CSS and the ability to collaborate effectively with developers.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze user needs and translate them into design solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
