This role is based in Accra, Ghana and will be on-site at Bixal’s CREATES Country Office in Labone, Accra, Ghana
What will you do?
Bixal has an exciting opportunity for a Driver to join our team to support the USAID/West Africa Collaborative Regional Evidence-based Adaptation for Transformative Economic Solutions (CREATES) Activity. The Project Driver will report directly to the CREATES Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- In line with Bixal’s policy CREATES Country Manual, and Security Plan, transport people and/or goods to and from destinations safely and on time.
- Ensure vehicles are safe and ready for use by performing pre- and post-trip inspections, refueling, and arranging maintenance.
- Ensure all vehicle documentation is up to date, including insurance, registration, trip and inspection reports.
- Maintain a vehicle logbook, keep mileage and repair records up to date.
- Use valid and trusted navigation technology as needed to find the best route and prepare for delays.
- Conduct regular safety checks on vehicle and report any safety concerns promptly including incidents and accidents to relevant team members.
- Ability to navigate through traffic and adhering to traffic laws at all times.
- Schedule and oversee routine maintenance and necessary repairs.
- Keep vehicle clean and presentable at all times.
- Ensure the use of seat belts and enforce other safety measures for all passengers.
- Transport CREATES team members or partners to countries sharing borders with Ghana where security conditions allow for it.
- Other similar responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Secondary school certificate or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum five years of driving experience, preferably within a U.S. Government/USAID project environment.
- Defensive driving skills and a driver’s license valid in West African countries are required.
- Commitment to following traffic laws and speed limits.
- Strong commitment to safety and punctuality.
- Driving experience in neighboring countries including Togo and Benin is an asset.
- Excellent command of English (oral and written), and proficiency in French is a plus.
- Basic mechanical skills and understanding of vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to work well within a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics, transparency, and accountability in program implementation.
- Proven integrity and thorough attention to detail are inherent to this position.
