Location
This role can work remotely from anywhere in the USA. You must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.
Job Summary
We seek a skilled and experienced Digital Accessibility Specialist to join our federal consulting firm. The successful candidate will work closely with team members to ensure that all digital products and services meet accessibility standards for individuals with disabilities. This will involve conducting accessibility assessments on documents and web properties, providing recommendations for remediation, and collaborating with designers and developers to implement accessibility features. The candidate will also provide ongoing training to team members on accessibility standards, compliance, and guidelines.

This is a full-time proposal position contingent on contract award.
Responsibilities
- Conduct accessibility assessments of digital products and services, including documents, websites, applications, and other digital assets.
- Provide guidance and recommendations for remediation of accessibility issues identified during assessments.
- Collaborate with designers and developers to implement accessibility features and ensure they are appropriately integrated into digital products and services.
- Stay current with accessibility standards and guidelines and ensure our digital products and services comply.
- Educate team members on digital accessibility and guide how to design and develop accessible products and services.
- Work closely with clients to understand their accessibility requirements and ensure our products and services meet their needs.
- Assist with other practice areas such as analytics, design, and usability research to ensure that federal content maintains a high level of accessibility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., digital design, web development, human-computer interaction, technical writing)
- At least 3 years of experience in digital accessibility, focusing on accessibility assessments and remediation of documents, web properties, and information and communication technology (ICT).
- Ability to manage a document backlog including testing, remediation and reposting or conversion of files to HTML.
- In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines, including WCAG 2.1 and Section 508.
- Experience testing digital content with assistive technologies (AT) and deep knowledge of how individuals with disabilities use assistive software.
- Experience consulting and working with designers and developers to implement accessibility features.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve accessibility barriers.
- Ability to work independently; suggest, outline, and drive accessibility initiatives from start to finish.
- Experience working with accessibility testing tools, such as JAWS, NVDA, and/or VoiceOver.
- Experience with manual, automated, and semi-automated accessibility review processes, including WAVE, Color Contrast Analyzer, Siteimprove, and/or AxeDevTools.
- Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles and how they relate to accessibility.
- Achieve Trusted Tester or CPACC certification within one calendar year.
