About This Role

Alliance Management contributes to establishing and maintaining relationships with Biogen’s partners. This role exposes the individual to cross-functional colleagues across Biogen and requires strong collaboration with internal and partner stakeholders. The Sr. Director, Alliance Management will be accountable for managing alliances of high complexity through the alliance life-cycle and contribute to the success of the partnership.  You will drive joint governance and proactively identify and resolve conflicts. You will drive alliance design and contract development, with Business Development, and guide the organization on best practices for best-in-class alliance execution. You will operate with entrepreneurial spirit and urgency to positively influence Biogen’s ability, in conjunction with our partners, to deliver new medicines to individuals across the globe afflicted by some of the most complex and challenging diseases.

What You’ll Do 

•    Support one of Biogen’s most complex alliances involving a recently approved therapy; including all aspects of drug development, lifecycle management, and commercialization.  
•     Develop collaboration guiding principles and objectives, execute and recommend changes to governance structure, develop joint ways of working, and provide alliance health checks.  
•    Act as the expert on the alliance contract and operationalization, drive contract development and contract amendments with Business Development, and be accountable for non-financial amendments.
•    Drive alliance governance including alignment with the partner on agenda, internal preparation, and outcomes tracking. Stakeholder management at the EC/EC-1 level. 
•    Build expertise of partner capabilities, culture, assets, deal structure /drivers, derisking. Establish relationship with partner counterpart and executives. Represent the voice of the alliance with stakeholders.
•    Utilize alliance reporting and alliance health monitoring to inform alliance strategy.
•    Train multidisciplinary teams on value drivers of alliance
•    Guide on tools and best practices for best-in-class alliance execution. Develop and deliver partnering and cultural sensitivity training internally. 
•    Drive functional learnings across alliance and improve Biogen’s overall alliance capabilities.

Required Skills 
•    Expertise on alliance contracts and track record of translating contract into actions.
•    Track record on influencing stakeholders at the senior level.  Ability to influence internal & partner stakeholders with impact on the business.
•    Ability to proactively identify and solve complex problems; utilize ground-breaking methods and experience to think beyond existing solutions. 
•    Track record of leading multidisciplinary projects and providing thought leadership. 
•    Experience with negotiation with senior management to influence decisions, and conflict management at the senior level. Experience developing change management strategies.
•    Excellent written and verbal executive communication skills.

Required Experience
•    15+ years of experience in Life Sciences Alliance Management required.  Advanced degree may be substituted for experience, as appropriate.
•    Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
•    Adjacent experience in Finance, Business Development, Strategy, Commercial, Medical and Manufacturing is strongly considered. 
•    Track-record of strong individual contributor experience in a matrixed organization. Track record of leading cross-functional projects.
