About This Role

Reporting to the Senior Director, Neurodegeneration Research Unit, you will implement and oversee cutting-edge research programs with the aim to discover treatments for people living with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and related tauopathies.  You will lead a team that advances value creating tau targeting research projects through the value chain. You will interface with external collaborators to drive tau targeting projects forward. You will serve as Biogen’s champion for the tau research strategy across all levels of the organization ranging in stage from exploratory to pre-IND with the goal of advancing programs into clinical testing.

  • Lead a world-class research team of scientists, focused on innovative approaches to targeting tau for the treatment of AD and related tauopathies. 
  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally to create a pipeline of differentiated, value creating tau targeting programs with strong biologic rationale and clinical tractability, using the multiple modalities available to Biogen and ranging in stage from exploratory to pre-IND.
  • Strategically partner with Biogen’s external innovation group to identify opportunities that complement our internal efforts and act as disease biology point of contact for due diligence efforts and established collaborations.
  • As a member of the NDRU Leadership Team, provide input and guidance on the NDRU‘s portfolio and strategy and support business operations.
  • Mentor, grow and identify talent and ensure operational & scientific excellence
  • Define an optimal combination of internal and external innovation to create a world-leading portfolio inclusive of management of CRO, industry and academic collaboration.

Who You Are

You are a recognized leader with a track record of accomplishments in the area of tau drug discovery and innovation who is forward-thinking and not afraid to challenge the status quo. You have a vision and a sense of urgency for discovering and developing better treatment options for patients living with AD and other tauopathies.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in a life-science field:  neuroscience, neurodegeneration, cell biology, pharmacology
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience from a combination of pharmaceutical/biotech and academic settings
  • Proven track record in all aspects of drug discovery from target identification to clinical candidate package generation and project leadership.
  • Sought out as a subject matter expert in the area of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly tau pathobiology
  • Recognized through invited speakerships and peer reviewed publications for a deep understanding of relevant biology, with an outstanding track record in translational research and/or drug discovery
  • Demonstrated experience managing people directly as well as through a matrix environment and at the Leadership Team level
