What You’ll Do
As a Machine Learning Engineer - Omics & Patient Data Integration, you will:
- Integrate omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) with real-world data sources (large-scale biomedical data, patient registries, EHRs, etc.) to develop and implement advanced statistical and machine learning models to support decision-making in clinical trials.
- Support integration, design and development of novel measures, models, and metrics to assess model validity and performance in both training and inference stages.
- Communicate findings and insights through clear and concise reports, presentations, and visualizations.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including clinical researchers, biostatisticians, and IT specialists, to ensure data quality and integrity.

You are passionate about exploring and establishing new methods for looking at data across devices, applications, data streams, and diseases. You love figuring out how to create mathematical and statistical models that relate human biology, clinical development to business outcomes and patient needs.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- >= 5 years Pharma/Biotech/Tech/Healthcare industry experience, alternatively extensive experience in academic/clinical centers of excellence
- Proven experience in developing and deploying machine learning models and statistical analysis, preferably in the context of omics data and healthcare applications
- Expertise in leveraging omics data along with electronic health records and other data sources derived from clinical care via state-of-the-art methodologies, programming languages, and tools.
- Experience in managing complex, interdisciplinary research, and development projects, especially in the fields of software and technology implementation
- Profound experience in data science, machine learning, and data engineering programming using R and Python and higher-level libraries such as tidyverse, ggplot, mlr, tidymodels, numpy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, matplotlib, Plotly or similar
Preferred Skills
- Experienced in communicating and building consensus on difficult or sensitive information with technology and business teams
- Familiarity and experience working on machine learning and data science problems using formal software development lifecycle approaches and best practices
- Formal application of principles of empirical science including statistical modeling, design of experiments, and hypothesis formulation and testing
- Advanced degree quantitative science such as statistics, applied mathematics or computational biology
Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is $107,000 - $171,000. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
