About This Role:


The Global OSI Organization (Operations and Systems Improvements) at our esteemed biotechnology company is seeking an Industrial Engineer to join our dynamic team. As an integral part of the Global Facilities Technical Authorities, this role is pivotal in enhancing our operational capabilities through sophisticated process modeling and efficiency optimizations. The Industrial Engineer will be entrusted with the development of high-impact productivity improvement plans, leveraging data-driven computerized manufacturing process models to inform strategic investment decisions. Your insights will guide the enhancement of existing manufacturing equipment and the adoption of innovative automation techniques.

Collaborating closely with OSI team members, your analytical prowess will influence improvements across all business units, ensuring that Biogen continues to be at the forefront of manufacturing excellence. This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of operational advancement, engaging with multiple stakeholders and management teams across our global manufacturing sites.

This is a hybrid role to be based at our offices in Research Triangle Park, NC.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and refine manufacturing process models utilizing Intelligent software suite, in partnership with Site Scheduling, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams.
  • Enhance process models to encompass raw material and utility consumption and associated labor for each manufacturing step.
  • Collect, analyze, and validate real-life operational data to ensure accuracy and reliability of process models.
  • Analyze models to pinpoint bottlenecks, propose solutions, and articulate findings to stakeholders to chart a course of action.
  • Craft detailed reports and communication materials to elucidate model outcomes and debottlenecking strategies.
  • Play a pivotal role in devising and implementing strategies for improving equipment utilization and operational efficiency across manufacturing processes, utilities, and facilities.

Qualifications

You are the driving force behind the establishment of our Industrial Engineering function, poised to shape how Biogen approaches manufacturing capacity enhancements. With a fervent interest in process simulation and data analytics, you possess a robust understanding of manufacturing operations and have a track record of resolving complex problems. You thrive in collaborative settings and are adept at working with cross-functional teams to achieve tangible results. Your curiosity fuels a relentless pursuit of continuous improvement, guided by a wealth of data and a commitment to excellence.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) and a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a process industry (pharma, biotech, chemicals, food, oil & gas, energy, automotive, etc.). Equivalent education and experience may also be considered.
  • Proficient in computerized process modeling/simulation tools (e.g., SuperPro/SchedulePro, Aspen).
  • Proven track record in manufacturing productivity improvements and debottlenecking projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix environment with diverse cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills: 

  • Lean Six Sigma experience
