Job Description

As a trusted HR business partner, this role will be responsible for providing advice, coaching, counsel and problem solving to the organization and acts as a focal point to provide human resources solutions for client organization in Japan affiliate. The role will interface with HR Centers of Excellence to deliver consistent, scalable solutions across the affiliate.

In this role, s/he will be responsible for the development and execution of HR strategies and activities that drive organizational growth, team effectiveness, and team engagement. The HR partner will be responsible for supporting effective working relationships across the affiliate, as well as within the global Human Resources organization

Key accountabilities for this position are:

Provides HR generalist support for clients to implement and manage human resources processes, including:

  • Provides support and coaching for people managers and employees in client organization on a variety of HR process including performance management, talent acquisition, compensation planning, and employee relations
  • Partners closely with the leaders in client organization on setting mid-long term people strategy including talent attraction, development, and retention
  • Partners with talent acquisition team, HR Centers of Excellence (COE), on recruiting strategy working with hiring managers
  • Partners with the compensation and benefit team, HR Centers of Excellence (COE), on job analysis and evaluation, compensation design based on career ladders, and benefit review and update. 
  • Utilizes people tools (Org Review, 360, engagement survey) that drive growth of the business
  • Works with managers in client organizations and other HR partners in managing issues on employee relations, performance issues, employees’ mental health, complaint investigation and disciplinary conduct
  • Builds collaborative working relationships with the HR Centers of Excellence (COE) functions to roll out corporate-wide programs and ensure client’s needs are understood and met
  • Ensures appropriate adherence to local labor laws and compliance related reporting
  • Act as a consultant and advisor with understanding of DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) to further learning and capability building within client group, and broader Japan organization
  • Works in partnership with global DE&I, the HR community, to build a strong internal and external reputation as a great place to work for all and cultivate a strong external network of appropriate DE&I connections
  • Utilizes the HR dashboard to understand diversity metrics, and review data regularly to reinforce and inspire action, accountability and outcomes 

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in progressively responsible roles in human resources, including HR business partner or HR generalist roles
  • Credible human resources professional with integrity who will be acknowledged as a trusted partner, and functional expert who is curious about learning the business 
  • Mission-driven individual with strong levels of perseverance; works toward both individual and team goals
  • Self-motivated, confident individual with growth mindset, demonstrating the ability to be involved at various levels and willingness to “roll up my sleeves” to do what it takes to drive results in the right way
  • Experience with HR technology platforms
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed HR Organization in English
  • Strong program / project management skills
  • Solid understanding of relevant Japan labor laws and requirements

Nice to have:

  • Certificate of health supervisor (衛生管理者) or Pharmacist with a background in the pharmaceutical industry

*Certificate of health supervisor (衛生管理者) must be acquired before or soon after employment.

Education

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, HR management, business management, or a related field
