Job Description

This application is for a 6-month student role from January – June 2025. Resume review begins in October 2024.

We are seeking co-ops to join the Protein Biochemistry group and the Tissue Enhanced Delivery group within Biogen’s Biologics Drug Discovery Department, and contribute to our mission to design, optimize, and develop therapeutics to improve the lives of patients with neurodegenerative diseases. In this role, you will be performing experiments that will support the efforts of a cross-functional team and your impact will directly contribute to achieving our drug discovery milestones.

The Protein Biochemistry group is responsible for the purification, bioconjugation, and characterization of monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, antibody-fusions, and other types of protein biologics to support the advancement of preclinical programs. You will purify proteins using standard purification techniques to deliver high quality reagents for use in in vitro assays or in vivo studies. You will play a role in the identification of antibodies optimized for properties such as binding affinity, activity in cellular models, or enhanced distribution to the central nervous system.

To be considered for this position you must:

  • Have a strong interest in biological sciences and drug discovery,
  • Have a willingness to learn new techniques and troubleshoot experiments and communicate effectively in a group setting.
  • Keep high quality records
  • Have some previous lab experience

The ideal candidate will have some experience or familiarity with at least one of the following:

  • Protein purification
  • Basic protein characterization techniques, such as HPLC and SDS-PAGE
  • Protein binding techniques, such as ELISA or FACS
  • Biophysical techniques, such as Octet, SPR, DSC, DSF, etc
  • Protein conjugation or antibody fragment production

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

Education

  • PhD, Masters, or Undergraduate Junior/Senior students.
  • Majoring in: Biology, Biochemistry, Biological/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
