Job Description

The Associate Director, US Congress Strategy & Operations Lead, will lead projects focused on congress operational excellence, best practices, fiscal and compliance responsibilities, and work with Commercial leadership to support seamless cross-product delivery at each congress where NA Commercial has a presence.

The lead is a valued advisor to all TA Leaders, franchises, and brands within Biogen North America, co-developing the NA Commercial congress strategy plans, including exhibit design, sponsorship selections, and association relationship management based on business priorities and approved budgets. Additionally, this role is required to lead complex, cross-functional teams to successfully manage the execution of key Northa America business engagement tactics spanning across commercial and medical.

Responsibilities

Strategic Congress Management Solutions

  • Enable the Development of NA Commercial Congress Strategy plans across all NA Commercial therapeutic area(s), in collaboration with Customer Engagement Leadership by advising TA leaders on exhibit design, sponsorship selections, association relationship management and budget forecasting.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all association correspondences and negotiations on behalf of Biogen.
  • Design and maintain standard operating procedures, business policies and standard program tasks to produce and to support excellence in execution and operational delivery.
  • Have strategic governance over all significant program sourcing, logistic management, and group travel across all Biogen enterprise-wide congresses.
  • Leverage a continuous improvement mindset to surface learnings and improvements, as well as bring industry best practices to the awareness of the Head of Meetings & Congresses.

Project Management

  • Required to lead complex, cross-functional planning teams to successfully manage the execution of key above TA USO business engagements spanning across commercial and medical.
  • Advise on Exhibit and Sponsorship strategy/design, engagements pull through and determine/authorize the best way to operate meeting logistics (on a holistic and per congress basis). 
  • Accountable to driving timelines for multiple workstreams including all related tasks of the project and holding cross functional partners accountable both upwards and laterally.

Financial Management

  • Directly accountable to all associated functional and brand direct spend on behalf of all the Biogen North America TA's. This includes negotiating, forecasting, and reconciling across all brands and therapeutic areas budgets.

Supplier Management

  • Accountable to supplier management of meeting management and exhibit house preferred suppliers & outsourced work, including onboarding, training, and support.
  • Determines department resource needs based on annual plan of meeting tactics
  • Compliance Processing for HCP Engagements
  • Be fully aware of Biogen compliance rules and strictly adhere to all rules holding both internal team members, stakeholders, and suppliers accountable.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Hands-on working experience, knowledge and understanding of both the meeting and pharmaceutical industries and the business practices that support best in class meeting planning management and execution for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
  • 8+ years with direct and sole accountability to planning, management and oversight of all aspects of executing pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology programs, meetings, congresses and events.
  • 4+ years’ experience of direct management of outsourced suppliers and oversight of project teams.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience with pharmaceutical regulations such as (HIPPA and the Sunshine Act)
  • Some form of tenure and/or long-term experience in any or all is required
  • Experience with third party meeting and event management companies
  • High school diploma require / B.A preferred

Preferred Skills

  • CMP Certification
  • Hospitality management
  • Should be affiliated with a meeting association such as MPI or PCMA

Additional Information

The base salary range for this position is $144,000 to $198,000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
