About This Role

The Associate Director, Medical Strategy & Execution (S&E), Global Medical Immunology, is responsible for driving the development and execution of the strategic plan and related initiatives for Global Medical Immunology.  Reporting to the Head of Global Medical Strategy & Execution, this role will be part of a team of strategy and execution leads that collaborate to drive consistency across the Global Medical units, ensure the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Medical Leadership Team are informed, and ensure Medical brings forward a single view for leadership at cross-functional leadership forums. He/she will have oversight of medical planning processes (e.g. budget planning), contractors/vendors used for Medical activities and processes (e.g. SOW, PO, and serving as point-of-contact), and other initiatives as needed.  He/she will act as a strategic partner to two Immunology Executive Directors: Lupus and Nephrology; providing leadership, insights, and coordination to drive business agility, facilitate customer focus deliverables, and ensure compliance standards are met. Having a matrixed role, he/she will identify and oversee critical operational aspects, prioritizing work across two unique disease areas, as well as contributing to the Global Medical S&E Team to ensure strategic alignment and awareness to the CMO.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with the Executive Directors and Medical Directors team to support the development of the overarching medical strategy for Immunology, identifying and mapping key priorities and projects.
  • Drive execution through project planning and budget discipline; lead annual planning processes, in coordination with Finance and HR, to ensure workforce and activity planning supports the annual and long-term goals.
  • Oversee budget from development through execution.
  • Develop and manage strategic content and communications for senior leadership and cross-functional engagement.
  • Manage annual goal setting and progress to ensure strategic objectives are being met.
  • Leverage synergies among the Strategy & Execution network to drive creative solutions, consistency, and awareness across regions, TAs, and functions; develop and drive strategies to ensure operational excellence.
  • Lead and participate in critical planning meetings and/or cross-functional committees to develop objectives and implement strategies and procedures; represent business unit on behalf of Head as necessary.
  • Collaborate to develop the team vision, scope, and objectives; drive a strong culture that fosters accountability, trust, and respect for all team members; proactively identify, support, and in some cases lead the continuous improvement of barriers to execution.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Experience in project/portfolio management and/or finance required, including strategy and long-range planning experience.
  • Excellent social competencies and ability to drive results within a highly matrixed organization effectively and efficiently.
  • Outstanding communication skills and strong ability to build and cultivate internal and external networks (including influence without formal authority).
  • Strong ability to identify and mitigate risk, analyze and solve problems, and formulate and drive key decisions
  • Strategic thinker with high attention to detail, strong facilitation skills and ability to execute in a timely manner.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently or within teams; high degree of innovation and enthusiasm for identifying, prioritizing, and executing on business process and system improvements.
  • Excellent command of computer skills (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point, etc.)

Preferred Skills

  • Pipeline and produce launch excellence experience.

Education & Experience Requirements

Will consider qualified candidates for either Associate Director or Director who meet the following requirements:

  • BA / BS degree required for Associate Director; Masters, PhD and/or MBA preferred for Director
  • Associate Director must have minimum 5+ years of experience working in the Pharma, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences industry; Medical and/or Commercial functional knowledge preferred for Director
  • Director must have 7-10+ years of experience working in the Pharma, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences industry; Medical and/or Commercial functional knowledge leading project/portfolio management and/or finance required, including strategy and long-range planning experience.
  • Director must have successful experience operating in a matrix reporting environment, prioritizing work, communicating and managing expectations across reporting lines.
