Betterment, the pioneer in automated investing, is seeking a social media innovator. If you love building and scaling platforms, optimizing performance through metrics, and crafting content that’s as compliant as it is clever, we want you.
We are searching for an experienced, social-savvy pro to plan, develop and publish creative campaigns that help our audience(s) navigate current financial topics and the Betterment product and brand. By leveraging data-driven insights and innovative storytelling, your content increases engagement, grows brand awareness, and ultimately brand loyalty. In addition to the core consumer business, you will also oversee the social accounts for our rapidly growing B2B businesses, producing content that connects with finance and HR professionals. This position reports into the Brand Creative team, and works closely with design, editorial, content, video, product marketing, and subject matter experts across the organization.
This role is based out of our NYC office. Below, we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and interview performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
- New York City: $110,000 - $138,000

This job is eligible for variable compensation in the form of a discretionary company incentive bonus. For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.
A day in the life
- Craft engaging, social-first content aligned with editorial, product, and marketing goals.
- Oversee daily management and execution of Betterment’s social channels.
- Build strategies to grow followers and engagement on our key channels.
- Distill complex information into easy to understand, social-friendly bits.
- Evaluate new platforms and advise on opportunities for channel expansion.
- Measure the business impact of social media and optimize strategies based on data.
- Stay up-to-date on social trends to identify opportunities and know when to be bold (but also when to be…demure).
Key Responsibilities
- Bring Betterment’s voice to life across social platforms, ensuring relevance and resonance with our platform-specific audiences.
- Own the project management pipeline for social: including scheduling, ideation, creative briefing, reviews/approvals, and compliance recordkeeping.
- Create content calendars across B2B and Retail, informed by insights and concurrent marketing objectives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, product, and design teams to execute product launches and translation of paid creative into organic formats. Plus, work opportunistically with the growth team to boost organic content.
- Devise strategies to scale current channels and identify new platforms for growth.
- Create timely content, acting as both a solo creative, and part of a team. You should be confident to work independently, as well as know when to bring in designers, copywriters or video producers. Collaboration and independence are equally valued.
- Use analytic tools to measure performance and adjust the go-forward strategy.
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of social media management experience (bonus points if within a regulated industry).
- Proven ability to launch and scale social platforms, execute cross-functional campaigns, and significantly grow engagement and followers.
- Deep knowledge of social platforms and analytics tools, especially Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Ability to distill complex topics into compelling content across platforms, from short-form posts to video scripts. Experience with graphic design or video production is a bonus.
- Experience leading large-scale, cross-functional projects.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to present key insights to stakeholders.
- Passion for improving personal finances, with previous experience creating personal finance or investment content a strong advantage.

What happens next

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.
On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.
