About the role

We’re looking for a Product Designer to create compelling and impactful web pages, acquisition experiences and top of funnel in-app experiences that engage and convert prospective B2B customers across our two different businesses: Betterment at Work and Betterment Advisor Solutions. You will bring strong communication, creative, analytical, and technical design skills to collaborate closely with a cross-functional team and stakeholders.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

  • New York City: $105,000 - $115,000

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.  For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.

A day in the life

  • Design pages and experience for our marketing websites to engage prospective customers and tell the Betterment story across our two B2B lines of business, Betterment at Work and Betterment Advisor Solutions
  • Iterate and improve on our high level acquisition experiences
  • Build and iterate on in-app experiences designed to increase value for our B2B customers
  • Make informed design decisions based on competitor analysis, research, data, customer feedback, and usability principles
  • Contribute to and uphold our accessible design system patterns and brand guidelines
  • Be responsible for all aspects of design for your projects from inception through launch
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, brand designers, content strategists, product design, marketing, and many others, working closely in a cross-disciplinary team
  • Contribute to product strategy by identifying new opportunities, ideas for A/B tests and staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry and competitor trends
  • Further develop your design skills, working among a talented team of designers, providing one another feedback and perspective, aiming for a cohesive holistic experience across all touchpoints

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years of relevant experience as a product designer (previous titles may have been different)
  • Portfolio of extraordinary product design work
  • Experience shipping impactful designs to real people, across web and mobile
  • Experience designing within an established accessible design system and evolving when appropriate
  • Strong collaborative skills with experience navigating and managing lots of feedback
  • An iterative, customer-centric approach to designing experiences
  • Experience working in a data-informed test and learn environment
  • A clear understanding of how to determine user problems, through research, user testing, and data analysis
  • Strategic product thinking and vision
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken

Bonus points if you have experience:

  • Previous B2B experience
  • Building websites via a CMS like HubSpot
  • Using UX analysis tools, like Mixpanel, Hotjar, FullStory, or Optimizely
  • Creating search-engine optimized websites and content
  • Ability to write HTML and CSS

What happens next

We’ll take a few weeks to review all applications. If we’d like to spend more time with you, we’ll reach out to arrange next steps, which will include 3-4 sets of meetings with your future colleagues.

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of  applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.
