We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable UKI Tax Specialist to join our dynamic team at BD. As the UKI Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations, preparing and filing tax returns, and providing tax planning and advisory services to the business units operating in the UK and Ireland. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and to identify tax optimization opportunities.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with our tax advisors, principally PWC, to file corporation tac computations for 18 legal entities within the legal framework.
  • Calculating and inputting into the BD OneSource tax system corporation tax actual provisions on a quarterly basis.
  • Calculating CT provisions for budget and projections and inputting into OneSource.
  • Work closely with other UK colleagues and BDO on the tax input required for the statutory audits, including Computations and transfer pricing.
  • Review statutory tax computations prepared in house for holdings entities
  • Support UK Finance Director with any UK tax enquiries and SAO filings, working with external advisors as required.
  • Calculating Group Relief Matrix
  • CIR calculations working with PWC
  • Ability to calculate deferred tax provisions
  • TPA calculations for actual results and projections
  • Review VAT returns prepared by the General Accounting COE.
  • Compile annual Business Risk Review for the BDUK Group and maintain risk and control matrix
  • Lead the UK tax group through the review and implementation of HMRCs GfC (guidelines for compliance)
  • Support with internal audit recommendations and mitigations as required.
  • Have oversight for all internal recharges, working closely with European tax colleagues to ensure correct mark-ups are applied.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP accounting and UK GAAP
  • Support team with timely and accurate tax related balance sheet reconciliations uploaded to the Blackline system.
  • Work within wider EFCOE team on key projects
  • External relationships:
    • Work with BDO to prepare the local tax comps
    • Liaise with Ernst & Young for all audit and control related items during the annual external audit.
    • Working closely with PWC For all tax filings

About you

  • Educated to degree level and Recognised Accounting qualification.
  • 2 + year's post-qualification experience, ideally within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience of a complex matrix organisation would be advantageous.
  • Strong technical (practice based) background covering statutory and tax elements.
  • Experience and interest in business tax compliance
  • Experience of working with Shared Service Centers/Centers of Excellence also advantageous
  • Solid knowledge of both US GAAP and UK GAAP
  • Systems: ERP (preferably SAP and JDE) and BPC and High level user of Microsoft packages (especially Excel)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex tax scenarios
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams
