In recent years, Medication Management Solutions (MMS) has built on this history through a significant expansion into the high-growth pharmacy automation space and is now one of the global leaders in pharmacy automation. The Pharmacy Automation platform positions BD to offer our pharmacy customers a more comprehensive set of smart, connected care technologies as they expand care to new settings, centralize their pharmacy operations and lead the charge in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the industry - health care worker burnout and the global clinician shortage. BD's Pharmacy Automation portfolio covers a wide range of hardware and software technologies from storage and dispensing robots, vision solutions, pouch packagers, vial filling systems, blister card production systems, central fill solutions and enterprise pharmacy management software.
We are seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer who will be responsible for various aspects of the design, development, test, and manufacturing of our pharmacy automation equipment. The focus of this role will be to maintain a product design that supports the Product Operations group and ensures consistent part sourcing at an acceptable cost point. This position may require the individual to participate in both new product development, as well as, sustaining activities for our existing product fleet. Strong attention to detail, adaptability, communication, and a willingness to work in a collaborative team environment are skills that will support a high level of success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
- As a senior member of the electrical engineering team, work collaboratively with cross functional teams to execute critical enhancements or net new robotic product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, build, verification, validation, and certification.
- Lead and support the R&D technical team on multiple projects in parallel.
- Actively work to improve the quality and reliability of current and future products within the Pharmacy Automation portfolio by applying theoretical and hands-on electrical support to identify problems and deliver robust solutions.
- Decompose complex system requirements into a sound architectural design and straightforward electrical specifications.
- Provide electrical solutions for changes to existing products in terms of: design test setups for manufacturing, write test applications, develop tools for system diagnostics and monitoring capabilities, and provide support for existing board designs.
- Apply knowledge of electrical engineering to design and improve products including robotics, servo systems, power electronics, communications networks, and supervisory control systems.
- Create, update, and release technical documentation to support the electrical aspects of the systems being developed.
- Provide electrical support for the ongoing regulatory certification efforts for multiple product lines.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 20 years of applicable experience required
- Demonstrated knowledge with motion control, AC power electronics, motors and controls, sensors, servo systems, and embedded control systems
- Demonstrated capability in Bare-Metal firmware coding in C. Understanding and use of memory management and interrupt vectors and priorities in embedded systems. NXP and STMicro microcontrollers preferred.
- Familiarity with the Altium PCB development environment or similar EE design package for schematic capture, board layout, manufacturing files, and documentation for PCBA development.
- Excellent communication skills: ability to work across a variety of departments such as mechanical engineering, procurement, and manufacturing.
- Motivated team player willing to lead other engineers in design and development of a product.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve highly technical and difficult issues.
- System level electrical architecture experience a must.
- Ability to build prototype printed circuit board assemblies and cables.
- Ability to manage your time (and others) to meet project deadlines.
- Proficiency with LabView and/or LabWindows CVI software to develop and support test automation would be a plus.
- C# programing under Windows Visual Studio would be a plus.
- Experience in obtaining and maintaining regulatory certification for products which comply with UL-61010 or UL-60601, CE and TuV.
- Experience with obtaining EMI/EMC certification.

- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
