About the role:

The Senior Manager, Strategic Innovation is responsible for leading the upstream marketing efforts primarily focused on new product innovation for the Specimen Management business.

The Senior Manager of Strategic Innovation is a critical role within Specimen Management. This person will be a member of a dedicated cross-functional strategic innovation team (including R&D and medical affairs), responsible for developing and delivering upon the innovation strategy to drive transformational growth opportunities. High-potential candidates should have strong leadership qualities and competency. This individual will be leading efforts among strong cross functional teams.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Works with business and R&D leadership to establish the short-term and long-term innovation strategy for the business
  • Prepares and presents new business opportunities to senior leaders based on detailed financial analysis, market opportunity, revenue potential, IP, and technological assessment
  • Conducts market research (technologies, procedures, competitive positions, pricing, segmentation, positioning, etc.) to identify unmet needs, with a heavy emphasis on collecting Voice of the Customer (VOC) through interviews, surveys, ethnographic research, etc.
  • Effectively partners and collaborates with business and corporate R&D, Medical Affairs, Business Development, Regional Marketing and teams and other functions to ensure development and execution/progression of innovation projects across all stages of product development
  • Maintains a broad and deep understanding of the Specimen Management space including market trends, competitive landscape, technology trends, current and emerging clinical needs, and white space opportunities
  • Collaborates on developing a framework and set of metrics to harmonize how we view, prioritize and approach our innovation hunting grounds and opportunities

About you:

  • BS/BA in business, science, marketing, or health care is required
  • MBA with concentration in marketing, strategy or finance is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, innovation or business strategy
  • Track record of delivering upon project and strategic business objectives in roles of increasing responsibility
  • Experience in new product development, innovation and business development
  • Experience in gathering customer insights through quantitative and qualitative market research
  • Skilled at developing marketing models and business cases for investment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Healthcare industry experience (Medical Device, Diagnostic or Life Science Industry experience is a plus)
  • Travel required (25%)
  • Strategic thinker with a growth mindset and strong influencing skills
  • Highly self-motivated, execution and results-focused leader with the ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and shape the strategic direction of the business
  • Strong action-orientation with ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task to balance diverse needs of the business
  • Highly analytical with ability to follow the dynamic changes within the market and identify key trends and opportunities for accelerated growth and market modeling
  • Strong customer orientation with ability to effectively understand unmet needs by stakeholderto inform a solid fact base and strategic focus of the business
  • Ability to make recommendations to senior leaders based on the assessment of the financial opportunity, IP, medical need, associated risks, and potential for revenue generation
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills; the ability to understand and communicate effectively with individuals from a broad range of business and technical disciplines and an ability to influence and inspire these groups to achieve the program objectives
  • Creative and results-oriented problem solver who demonstrates logical basis for recommendations
  • An ability to have a consistent, positive, motivating influence on the performance of those individuals with whom they work
