The Senior Engineer is an essential part of BD's Digital Engineering (DE) team and will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to the advancement of BD's next generation medical products and enhance the current product portfolio. The Senior Engineer, under the general direction of the Digital Engineering Staff Engineer - CT & Imaging, will apply industrial CT and complementary imaging technologies to evaluate and optimize design functionality as well as actively research and develop advanced techniques and best practices. This role is located in Research Triangle Park(near Raleigh/Durham)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact independently with product development teams to examine options and develop plans to use industrial Computed Tomography (CT) scanning tools and complementary imaging technologies, internally and externally, to optimize part performance.
  • Actively define, research, and implement new technologies and best practices in industrial CT, and complementary imaging technologies, and post-processing.
  • Analyze and post-process voxel-based data in support of BD's product portfolio using Volume Graphics, Geomagic, Mimics, and/or equivalent software.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of metrology standard processes, ensuring comprehensive understanding and application of GD&T principles.
  • Enhance internal capabilities and provide training to BD associates on current industrial CT and related imaging technologies.
  • Apply additional engineering tools (i.e. SolidWorks, scripting, statistical analysis), in conjunction with voxel-based data, to develop optimal solutions and obtain a more in-depth understanding of engineering problems.
  • Maintain state-of-the-art industrial CT and imaging post-processing competencies through training courses and participating in seminars and industry conferences.
  • Promote and expand collaborative partnerships with BD's business R&D teams, external partners, academic institutions, software vendors, and other related organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a B.S. Degree in Engineering, Metrology or other related science degree. Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing analysis of voxel-based data, with advanced knowledge of industrial CT, laser/optical imaging and post-processing is preferred.
  • Proficient in Volume Graphics and Geomagic (or similar software) is preferred.
  • Experience in the medical and/or medical device industry is preferred.
  • Experience with failure mode investigations and techniques is preferred.
  • Any experience in coding, software development, or data science is highly valued.
  • Experience using three-dimensional CAD solid modeling software packages, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience working with injection molded products and related processes is a plus.
  • Proven track record to work with engineering professionals at all levels and to connect with others effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills emphasizing providing guidance and insights, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Alignment to all BD policies and procedures as well as any laws where applicable.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with management, project teams, and multifunctional personnel on a timely basis.
  • Work independently to identify actions needed to complete assignments and demonstrate a strong drive for results.
  • Manage assignments in accordance with project prioritization.
