Section Summary
The intern will work in our R&D department supporting new product development projects for peripheral intervention products such as guidewires, balloons, catheters, sheaths, etc. The position involves working on multiple project types which include but are not limited to: design modifications, process improvements, testing, material evaluations, manufacturing support, clinical evaluation/testing, regulatory submissions, technical writing, presentations, data analysis, CAD (SolidWorks), Microsoft Office, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and statistical software.
Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of research including planning, execution, documentation, and reporting
- Work closely with other engineers, scientists, technicians, marketing personnel, quality control, manufacturing, purchasing, clinical personnel, legal, and sales personnel both internally and externally
- Perform engineering analysis to support new product development efforts
- Develop test methods, execute measurement system analysis, and perform verification and validation tests
- Design experiments, collect and analyze data, make recommendations based on findings, and prepare reports
- Create designs using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD package
- Generate IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and reports
- Coordinate and assist with bench studies, animal studies, and human clinical trials
- Support manufacturing start-up, process improvement, and ongoing production support
- Travel to off-site locations and international sites approximately 10% of time
QUALFICATIONS
Required
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited university or college pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 highly preferred
- Ability to commit to a year round internship
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required: Word, Excel, Power Point
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Ability to work 20 hours minimum onsite in Salt Lake City, UT location per week.
Preferred
- Previous proven experience preferred; Wet lab skills: chemical handling, pipetting, attention to detail and analytical methods
- Experience with CAD (SolidWorks) preferred
