Under general supervision of a Sr. Engineer, the intern will work in a variety of assignments to provide general support to the engineering group. The intern's assignments will make a positive contribution to BD Peripheral Intervention as well as give the intern opportunities to gain "hands on" work experience with the intent of training the intern for the potential of starting a successful career after graduation.

SUMMARY
The Research & Development Intern will provide support to the product development team in the design, testing, and manufacturing of medical devices for interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular procedures. The position involves working closely with engineers on projects ranging from concept development through commercialization. The intern will gain exposure to all phases of the product development process including design control, material specifications, biocompatibility evaluation, sterilization validation, shelf life studies, and human factors. In addition, the intern will learn how to apply engineering principles to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting experiments and collecting data
  • Prepare reports, charts, graphs, and statistical tables
  • Provide general administrative support such as scheduling meetings, maintaining files, and communicating via e-mail and telephone
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Solve technical issues related to laboratory equipment and processes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions

Minimum Qualification

  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Available to work onsite, full time (40 hours per week) during summer break.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience with SolidWorks and Minitab
