About the role
As Product Test Lab Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the lab meets all necessary requirements and quality controls while keeping the team fully trained. The position involves developing and assisting in new test procedures, processes, and equipment to enhance lab capabilities. It includes communicating project reports, updates, and anomalies to core teams, managing project testing requirements, scheduling, and resource needs. Additionally, it supports BD departments worldwide with testing, product expertise, and lab management while assisting in implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS). The role also leads critical business projects, supports BD global initiatives like test method validation, and contributes to documentation creation to support BD's operational needs.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for the lab in meeting the requirements, ensuring that all quality controls are adhered to and that the Lab team is continually fully trained.
- Develop and assist with developing new test procedures, processes, and equipment to enhance the capabilities of the Product Test Lab.
- Communicate project reports, updates and anomalies to project core teams and escalate concerns where required.
- Discuss and communicate project testing requirements and communicate scheduling and resource management needs.
- Support any BD department (worldwide) with advice, testing or product expertise and laboratory management.
- Assists in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Key member of critical business projects, providing testing guidance and expertise.
- Leads and supports the introduction and compliance of BD global initiatives such as test method validation.
- Authoring and assisting in creating documentation, operational specifications, work order documents and spreadsheet data templates to support the needs of BD.
About you
- Experience in managing a team in the laboratory environment.
- Experience with commonly used PC applications- strong familiarity with Excel is advisable.
- Good level of numeracy and written communication with the ability to read and interpret documentation in English
- Some experience working to quality/ISO procedures (not essential, but beneficial)
- Laboratory experience in a medical or engineering capacity
- Experience in the use of force gauges (not essential but beneficial)
- A degree or equivalent experience in Biological or Engineering sciences is preferred.
- Methodical and organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to keep a fast pace and change priorities when required.
- Quick and creative problem-solving.
- Laboratory environment or manufacturing experience
- Self-motivated and able to encourage and motivate a team
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Knowledge and understanding of medical devices and their use
