Job Description Summary
BD is looking for an ambitious paralegal to work alongside the Senior Legal Counsel supporting BD's UK and Ireland business for a fixed term 24-month contract. The role will support all areas of the business and manufacturing sites in UK & Ireland and support initiatives for the EMEA legal team.
We are looking for a person who is keen to learn and open to new ideas and ways of working in support of the busy and varied in-house legal department.
The role will suit a paralegal / graduate looking to develop a career in law gaining experience in a wide variety of legal practice and skill areas. If a move to professional qualification is the goal, then we are open to exploring the option of a solicitor apprenticeship or other support to support qualification and a UK Solicitor.

Main responsibilities will include:
Advise on Business Operations
- Support the day-to-day operations of the UK and Ireland, including commercial, sales, manufacturing sites, marketing, finance and HR.
- Participate in activities and meetings to identify, evaluate and address legal issues.
- With support of the Senior Legal Counsel provide proactive legal advice to manage legal risk and help drive well-informed decision making.
- Review and revise contracts and other transactional documents.
- Prepare and review standard documentation (e.g. contract templates) based on regional BU templates.
- Prepare training and guidance to develop and educate the UK and Ireland Business.
Corporate Secretarial Work
- Support the EMEA legal team in the management of Corporate Secretarial work for the UK and Ireland legal entities.
- Support the maintenance of the UK and Ireland legal resource site including creation of the material and content.
- Operate with Candor, Expertise, Transparency and Integrity
- Deliver pro-active, practical, solution-oriented advice that drives informed decision-making in support of commercialization strategy and execution.
- Discuss issues in a professional, candid and transparent manner, building trust and confidence in all actions.
Support the Global Law Department
- Work collaboratively with colleagues from EMEA business unit lead lawyers to support implementation of templates and EMEA BU processes.
- Support and actively participate in the EMEA Key Development Goals of the legal team.
About you
- University law degree or post-graduate legal qualification, with the aspiration to have a career in law.
- Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience with contracts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong and trusted relationships across the business and within the Law Department.
- Positive, proactive, and solution-focused mindset.
- Excellent communication skills with integrity, honesty, and a proven capacity to take stands and defend positions.
- Strategic approach to problem-solving, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
