About the role
The Mechanical Engineer will work as part of the broader development team to complete NPD, sustaining or continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities involve applying engineering standards, technical experience, and industry knowledge to carry out product technical programs. This includes, but is not limited to: creation of test plans, engineering analysis data, test methods, protocols, and reports, along with the overseeing of test execution and root cause analysis activities.
You will play a crucial role as a development team member, collaborating efficiently with the wider multi-functional development team to advance project tasks. Whilst acting as a key knowledge resource for the broader team in all areas of product technicality.
Main responsibilities will include:
- The Mechanical Engineer is involved in project tasks at all stages of development: they support the design of mechanical components and produce design outputs (e.g. technical drawings and specifications) of electromechanical devices, jigs, and test fixtures.
- Conduct project tasks including root-cause analysis, hypothesis testing, and Design of Experiments.
- Use Design for Six Sigma tools to improve product design, validate test data significance, and effectively assist in concept selection.
- The role involves working with Engineers, Technicians, and/or Operators during brainstorming and hands-on testing.
- Plan, coordinate, design, and analyse data including activities for feasibility and characterization testing, prototype testing, and V&V testing.
- Collaborate with the multi-functional team: Management, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Software, System Engineering, Test Engineering, Procurement, and Quality, among others, to support the successful development of technologies to meet technical, customer, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Collaborating with team members involves risk management, compliance assessments, crafting requirements, designs, and testing methods.
About you:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (e.g. Biomedical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing and Automation).
- 1+ year of relevant industry experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Experience in an R&D environment: a full or a portion of the product lifecycle process is preferred.
- Knowledge of international standards applicable to medical devices (e.g. ISO 60601-1, EU-MDR) is an advantage.
- Experience in component design with the use of 3D modelling/2D drafting software (e.g. Solidworks) is preferred.
- Experience with assembly modelling and management (e.g. tolerance stack-up analysis) is preferred.
- Experience in data acquisition and analysis through the use of statistical tools (e.g. Minitab) is preferred.
