Shift Hours - 5:30PM to 6:00AM

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, attend, and adjust a group of similar machines. Has supporting responsibility for the quality and quantity of molded parts as well as safety, housekeeping, paperwork, and training.
  • Train other Mold Set up personnel, assist engineers in qualifying materials and machinery, and assist tool room personnel in pin changes.
  • Practices consistent application of sound quality assurance principles. Perform all duties outlined in career block 3A.
  • Set up assigned molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment (chiller, tower, grinders, dryers, robots, mold heaters, etc.) including changing tools, verifying materials, performing level one preventative mold maintenance, and machine safety checks.
  • Monitor entire department observing overall process and quality of molded parts. Interpret the root causes of quality issues. Work with Set Up to make the required adjustments to the machine and controls to maintain proper quality and cycle efficiency.
  • Document all machine adjustments on process run sheet. Maintain a valid process.
  • Oversee Set-up personnel regarding mold, molding processes, molding machine functions, and quality control.
  • Perform minor repairs to molds, machines, and all auxiliary equipment.
  • Complete all required paperwork such as line clearance, mold history, process run sheet, and safety check sheet.
  • Familiarize Machine Operators with the equipment.
  • Develop good working relationships with management, engineers, tool room, maintenance, quality control, senior process technicians, lead set-ups, mold systems specialists, and operators.
  • Assist tooling coordinators with level 3 preventative maintenance, pin changes, mold repairs (perform L3, P/C, or mold repairs as necessary without tooling coordinator).
  • Optimize quality by understanding Quality Control specifications, blueprints, basic measuring devices (calipers, pin gauges, luer taper, optical comparator, etc.). Optimize quantity by understanding material interactions with tools (shrink factors, melt temperature, materials, etc.), detail tool design (gate size, runner size, gate angle, pin size, vents, pilots), changing pilots and pins, improving parts containment, improving cycle times, and cavity utilization.
  • Provide detailed shift status report with accurate explanation of damage, down time, down occurrences, high scrap rate, slow cycle, etc. to supervisor and the lead set-up for the next shift.
  • Shut down machines when needed.
  • Responsible for constant communication with key personnel throughout the department. Provide coach with feedback regarding individual work performance in relation to evaluations.
  • Remain current on specification changes, equipment modifications, department procedures, and other changes which affect performance.
  • Attend scheduled Set-Up training meetings.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

  • A.S. / A.A. degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English and basic math skills needed.
  • Communication skills are essential.

Minimum Experience:

  • Five years of experience working with molding machines.
  • Problem solving skills are required.

  • This position is in a clean room manufacturing environment and the physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • The incumbent may be frequently required to stand and/or occasionally sit for extended periods of time. Bending, stooping, and reaching are also frequently required. While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to episodes of walking, kneeling, balancing, crouching, pushing/pulling, repetitive grasping, hearing, twisting, lifting, frequent use of hand to finger, handle, feel, pick, or type which can include repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
  • The incumbent may be expected to stand for long periods of time during their shift and navigate small spaces between and inside molding production equipment.
  • The incumbent may occasionally be required to climb.
  • The position will almost always have exposure to work near moving mechanical equipment, and potential temperature fluctuations.
  • Occasionally the position will have exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, cleaning compounds and solvents.
  • The incumbent will be exposed to noise levels in the work environment moderate to loud.
  • The incumbent must be willing and able to wear required PPE such as, safety glasses, face mask and/or shield, hearing protection, safety shoes, hair and beard net and smock.
