Reporting to the executive editor of Axios Local, the Managing editor of the South will play a critical role in sharpening our news coverage in the region, supporting our talent and helping steer Axios to new successes in the future as we continue on this incredible growth trajectory.

- Oversee remote reporters and editors covering five to seven cities across the South.
- Help hire and train reporters to produce a daily Axios Local newsletter, written in Smart Brevity style.
- Maintain editorial standards across the region and ensure we keep the audience top of mind in every part of the process.

- A belief in Smart Brevity as the core writing style of Axios Strong management skills to oversee and support a team of journalists.
- Editing and management experience in a fast-paced news environment.
- Demonstrated experience conceptualizing big ideas and seeing them through.
- Strong writing and editing skills for online, newsletters and ability to translate stories to across different platforms.
- Experience working across teams to produce quality content.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital and social media landscape.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to assign and manage multiple stories at once.
Starting salary for this role is in the range of $130,000 - $150,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
