Responsibilities: Research, design, and develop computer and network software or specialized utility programs. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Update software or enhance existing software capabilities.

Design, code, test, debug, and document new and existing components to ensure that software meets business, quality and operational needs. Build high quality code following unit testing and test-driven development. Drive and participate in code and document reviews, mentoring team in best practices. Collaborate with peer organizations, DevOps, Support organizations on technical issues and provide guidance. Interpret and translate business needs to technical requirements and accurate estimates. Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality and performance is achieved. Work with team to troubleshoot code level problems quickly and efficiently. Apply deep technical expertise to resolve challenging programming and design problems. Contribute to technical roadmap and technical debt elimination, balancing time, resource, and quality constraints to achieve business and strategic goals and requirements. Break down a complex problem into smaller components and provide a clear solution for each piece. Develop architectural documents and diagrams to outline architecture and relationships between subsystems and participates in review of those designs. Maintain broad knowledge of development tools and programming languages, understand and recommend their appropriate selection and application. Investigate and prototype technologies and algorithms to identify feature feasibility and optimal solutioning. Take a lead role and own a particular area of a product/service - consult and shape plans by estimating task difficulty and effort. Work with Product Owner and/or Product Manager/Team to understand and help refine functional and technical requirements for new products or upgrades. Contribute to cost-benefit analysis by providing estimates for the features and determine feasibility of each feature. Mentor and provide direction to fellow software engineers regarding company development processes and product architecture.

Must be available to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States. Telecommuting is permitted.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field and seven (7) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a software engineer-related occupation.

Special Requirements: Position requires at least seven (7) years of experience in each of the following skills:

  • Utilize knowledge of extensive professional experience in enterprise environment to drive organizational web development in frontend and backend applications, web standards and web performance optimization.
  • Utilize knowledge of JavaScript applications using Angular, React or similar to build complex stateful front-end web applications.
  • Utilize knowledge of server-side applications using Node.js, .Net, Java or similar to build performant and scalable WebAPIs and asynchronous event handlers.
  • Utilize knowledge of REST API design principles using JavaScript (Node.js), .Net, Java or similar to build performant RESTful web-services.
  • Utilize knowledge of Database design and SQL and NoSQL Databases to identify database system and data structure, and to establish data relationships and querying strategies.
  • Utilize knowledge of Software System Design principles to solution application architectures that result in loosely-coupled, scalable and adaptable components.
  • Utilize knowledge of troubleshooting, system monitoring, and logging tools (Dynatrace, Splunk, Catchpoint and others) to perform application health monitoring, issue debugging and other monitoring champion (on-call) duties.
  • Utilize knowledge of Release Management practices (including Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery) to create and maintain application source code build and deployment pipelines.
  • Utilize knowledge of Agile Scrum practices to self-organize on project execution and delivery priorities, and to handle team communications.

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $206,315 - $250,000/year. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
