Your future team
Our Shield Engineering Team is comprised of people with backgrounds in supporting developers and their teams across different technical domains. We assist Atlassian engineers adopt and utilise the shared infrastructure, services and tooling in the most effective way. Embedded in engineering teams, we help accelerate engineering teams by providing world class support experience, improving engineering efficiency, impact and developer experience.

We are hiring a Shield Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager of the Shield Engineering team. You are a technical support engineer with a background in helping developers overcome their issues with local development loop, CI and CD. Here, you'll be the main contact for the Jira Platform teams. You will build empathy and understanding for their needs, improve to uplift the support experience, while working with the team to help accelerate all Jira developers at scale.
What you'll do
- Unblock developers and help resolving their issues
- Analyse operational metrics and trends in user queries to identify friction
- Be the voice of the customer within the team and representing their needs
- Run projects to reduce support load and future improvement
- Automate repetitive tasks and improve workflow to reduce toil
- Enhance self-serve capabilities through high-quality documentation and training
- Partner with experienced Shield engineers in advocating world class support experience
Your background
- Demonstrated experience supporting engineering teams in technical domains
- Adept experience supporting docker, modern Java-based applications, Git, Maven
- Familiarity with modern development best-practices and operational requirements
- Exposure to elevating developer productivity and the end-to-end engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with shell scripting or Python/Java/Kotlin, Cloud Infrastructure (e.g.AWS)
- Worked with CI/CD and DevOps tools, such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Gitlab, Github Actions
- (Optional) Experience with Atlassian products, such as Jira, Bitbucket Cloud, Pipelines and Bamboo
