• Key areas for support are mechanical design and analysis of parts and assemblies
• Integration, characterization, and testing of excimer laser parts, assemblies, and modules
• Finite element analysis, computational flow dynamics; structural dynamics, vibrational characterization
• Collection and documentation of mechanical engineering best practices
• Internship project responsibilities can be partially determined by the candidate's interest area(s) and background.

• Must currently be a GEM program eligible student
• Must be pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, or a related engineering, scientific, technical field degree.
• Some experience, knowledge of, familiar with designing or working with mechanical parts (machined, sheet metal, molded) and mechanical assemblies.
• Some experience / knowledge of familiar with CAD software packages (solid modeling and detailed drawings), Creo preferred.
• Some experience / knowledge of familiar with finite element analysis (FEA) software packages, ANSYS or Creo preferred.
• Awareness of GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis and its fundamentals.
• Hands on fabrication and integration of mechanical assemblies or mechanisms is a plus
• Some understanding and exposure to manufacturing equipment would be ideal (CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, etc.)

• This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.

• Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
