This role will be part of the Product Development (R&D) Team and will be responsible for managing the development of a major subsystem of a next-generation surgical robotic system. The ideal candidate will be strong in electrical and mechanical fundamentals and contribute directly to finalizing and transferring designs to manufacturing. This position requires experience with complex user-facing systems and a strong blend of technical and collaboration/communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and integration of a critical subsystem for a surgical robotic system, managing multidisciplinary teams through Scrum and Waterfall practices.
- Drive complex technical decision-making, coordinating with cross-functional teams (software, systems engineering, QA) and ensuring project alignment with timelines, budget, and quality goals.
- Engage with surgeons, marketing, vendors, and development partners to define customer requirements, optimize designs, and ensure seamless hardware integration.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including intellectual property, product specifications, regulatory requirements, and validation protocols.
- Design, build, and evaluate prototypes, conducting risk analysis (FMEA, FEA, DoE) and optimizing for manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
- Create specification sheets, drawings, and bills of material

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Engineering discipline.
- 8-10 years experience in product development or other regulated industry with growing responsibilities in managing large teams and mentoring others.
- Demonstrated experience of managing complex multi-disciplinary requirements, architecture, and risk, to ensure safe and effective product design and delivery, including close familiarity with applying industry and regulatory standards to product design.
- Extensive experience in mechanical design, system integration, and optimization of motors, bearings, encoders, linear actuators, and plastic and metal components (casting, injection molding)
- Strong understanding and historical practice with thermal, vibration, and electromagnetic interference management of electromechanical systems.
- Experience with user research and usability testing.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD programs
