Position Summary:

  • The Aptiv Connection Systems Team is looking for a Mechanical Product Engineer to join the North America Product Engineering Team. The Mechanical Product Engineer will serve as a product design/development engineer for Mechatronic Packaging and Pin Headers connection systems and associated components, materials, assemblies and manufacturing technologies. The successful candidate will focus on a wide range of on-vehicle products necessary to support rapid growth within Aptiv's electrification product portfolios.

Your Role:

  • Education: Mechanic, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering or experience on the industrial design field.
  • 90% English (written and verbal).
  • Experience in Product Engineering (minumun 2 years).
  • Knowledge in product design & validation methods.
  • Problem solving skills, print interpretation, GD&T, and stack up studies.
  • Familiar in component manufacturing processes (plastic molding, stampings, machining, deep drawn, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and motivate others
  • Ability to lead projects, directing the activity of multiple support organizations and assure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Possess sufficient CAD skills to open, manipulate, assemble, and make minor modifications to 3D component models
  • Develop and improve the product collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, operations and quality

Your Background:

  • 2D and 3D CAD proficiency with NX or Solidworks.
  • Problem solving certification or training.
  • Experience in design of injection molded, rubber, sheet metal, with a general knowledge of the manufacturing process for each.
  • Experience in applying GD&T dimensioning and performing tolerance stacks.
  • General knowledge of industry specifications pertaining to RF, ethernet and USB components.
  • Work with suppliers, purchasing, SQE, ME, VE, plant mfg., plant quality to resolve issues.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Identify and select appropriate mechanical components for hardware and product engineering projects.
  • Design and optimize thermal management systems to ensure proper heat dissipation and thermal performance of mechanical components.
  • Perform structural analysis to evaluate the strength, durability, and integrity of mechanical structures and components.
  • Use analytical methods and finite element analysis (FEA) tools to assess structural performance.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed mechanical designs and engineering drawings.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes and techniques to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
  • Conduct FMEA to identify potential failure modes of mechanical systems and components.
  • Define geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to ensure proper fit, form, and function of mechanical components.
  • Drive innovations and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance mechanical design processes and product performance.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical engineering processes and methodologies to execute projects effectively.
  • Follow established MCAD engineering processes and workflows to develop and validate mechanical designs.
  • Design and simulate plastic components using BOD (Behavior Object Description) and DDS (Data Distribution Service) tools.
  • Design mechanical enclosures and housings to ensure electromagnetic compatibility and minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).
  • Specify optical components and interfaces for integration into mechanical systems and assemblies.
  • Follow ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) processes and guidelines for mechanical engineering projects.
  • Utilize Polariton or similar tools for requirements management, traceability, and documentation.
