This position is part of our Advanced Safety and User Experience segment (AS&UX)
Summary:
The candidate would be responsible for materials and failure analysis of automotive electronics systems including evaluations of environmental effects on new materials and electronic systems designs. This position includes hands-on work with microscopic inspections, performing destructive analysis, and operating and interpreting results from equipment such as SEM, EDX, X-ray, RDA and other equipment for chemical analysis . Candidate will responsible for communicating results/conclusions through written reports.
Responsibilities:
- Combine the use of various analysis techniques to determine root cause of failures
- Perform inspections and hands-on destructive analysis of parts that have been life-cycled
- Maintain lab analysis equipment that is assigned as part of job responsibility
- Develop and optimize new analysis test procedures and document best practices
- Communicate completed reports with global product teams and global validation customers
- Assist program teams when debugging new product design issues and corrective actions
- Complete analysis requests for product team development support of new materials/suppliers
- Acquire & analyze data to form data driven conclusions using specialized lab equipment
- Support automotive active safety development by analyzing new technologies and materials
- Guide and provide best analysis methods when product teams need failure analysis support

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering field. (Materials or Chemical Engineering or Chemistry degrees preferred but not required depending on work experience)
- Experience with construction and analysis of electronics systems including failure analysis and/or materials engineering
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail and persistence
- Strong capabilities in communication, organization, multitasking, and teamwork
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years' experience working at an electronics company (lab setting also preferred)
- Knowledge/experience with respect to soldering of surface mount IC's and components
- Experience with chemical analysis equipment for detecting differences and identifying unknowns
- Knowledge of IC package types and construction
