The supplier engineer BU Focal is responsible for providing leadership to the assigned business unit and managing overall supplier quality across a matrixed organization and supplier base, ensuring process controls are established and adhered to throughout the supplier's entire manufacturing process. Engages early in product development, providing drawing/design input and conducting first builds with the supplier to establish quality products upfront. In addition, manages customer and factory escalations by driving supplier corrective action reports and presenting to business unit executives.
Supplier Engineer-BU Focal Overview
The supplier engineering team is a supportive, cross-functional team with many diverse skillsets and experiences, lending itself to many learning opportunities just from within the team. Additionally, Applied has extensive internal and external training programs offering various certifications and development opportunities tailored specifically for the engineer's skill sets and goals. The highly dynamic workload is project-focused and across any commodity e.g. OEM, BTP, allowing the engineer to manage individual work schedules.
Our engineering judgment is in demand every day as we collaborate with engineers and scientists across Applied Material business units to develop the next generation products and sustain the quality of our current products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead quality problem resolutions, drive root cause and correction actions at suppliers and communicates back to the business unit executives.
- Support new product development/introduction by reviewing process specifications, engineering drawings, and first article inspections to ensure integrity and clarity.
- Drive systemic supplier performance improvement plans for reducing quality defects and Install and warranty related issues.
- Drive SPC (statistical process control) compliance and improvement projects to reduce out of control conditions.
- Conduct audits at supplier sites - part to print verification, quality management system review, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Proliferate key learnings and BKMs (best-known methods) into the Business Unit and Supplier Base.
- Prepare and present executive summaries on customer and factory escalations. Prepare and present Quarter Quality Reviews to Business Unit Executives.
- Engage in new product development programs - providing supplier perspective into drawing reviews and DFx analysis.
- Support Pilot and Volume manufactory sites as the supplier quality engineer for specifically assigned suppliers.
Functional Knowledge
- Demonstrates depth and/or breadth of expertise in engineering and project management
- Willingness to develop technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: OEM, BTP and special process e.g. coating, cleaning

- Understanding and use of various problem-solving methodologies, such as 8D, six sigma, etc.

Experience and Education
- 7 - 10 years of relevant work experience
- Bachelor's / Master's Degree. in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing engineering or related discipline

U.S. Salary Range:
$140,000.00 - $192,500.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
