Applied Materials' Austin Engineering Department is searching for an intern to join our team in summer 2025! Research and rapid development group designing, procuring, testing, and iterating prototype parts as part of a team including physicists, EEs, and software experts. We are a small group of engineers focused on new product development. If you like to dream up things, design them, build and test them with your own two hands, then we are the group for you. The position will entail the following:

  • Do just about anything needed in service of new product development activities. One day you may be sweeping the lab and the next day you may be presenting to a Vice President on your latest design or experiment.
  • Typical activities include: concept generation, detailed design in 3D CAD packages (NX, Creo, Solidworks, and Inventor), detailed drawing and bill of material documentation, cabling, assembly & test of equipment (your own designs as well as others), present in design reviews to the group, review other people's designs in design reviews, operating equipment in our machine shop (CNC, lathe, saw, brake, etc.), conduct experiments, analyze data, analyze designs (FEA), work with supply chain to purchase materials, troubleshoot equipment, write code, modify existing code, participate in safety reviews, attend training (safety, CAD, etc.) and yes, sweep the floor from time to time.
  • If you have skills in programming we may also involve you in our thruput simulation software efforts and/or our virtual reality software efforts (mostly learning how to use it, learning how to program it, modify it, etc)

Requirements

  • Student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Experience in semiconductor processing or manufacturing preferred
  • Quick learner

Compensation

$29 - 37 per hour

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and education level and will vary depending on confirmed job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
