Description
It takes deeply dedicated, intelligent and hard-working individuals to maintain and exceed the high expectations for the exciting brand at Apple. You will lead a team of engineers (DFx, DFm, test, SQE, PQE, etc.) and others in support of new product development as well as sustaining operations and ensuring the contract manufacturer readiness for very high volume production. You will bring your knack and thirst to drive all technical operational issues related to SMT and system integration processes to ensure effective closure of all issues to enable operational success of the entire new product introduction cycle and into the mass production phase. Areas of responsibility include: • Design for Assembly and Manufacturability - Provide early and on-going manufacturing involvement to ensure new products are manufacturable in high-volumes. This entails understanding new technologies, mechanical/electrical/RF design, and the ability to influence teams through data/statistics based insights. • Process Engineering: Designs and develops technically complex processes to achieve precision assembly while improving quality and efficiency. Implement and successfully scale automated and semi- automated solutions based upon sound engineering principles and technologies developed for a specific application. • Product Engineering - Works all phases of a product from concept to manufacturing at scale to end of life. • Contract-Manufacturer (CM) Readiness: Work with the CapEx, Equipment design (Automation / Manual), and Factory teams at every NPI build to ensure that assembly and test equipment are installed and qualified, operator work instructions published, and operators trained. • Yield management: Lead the team to triage all yield detractors and drive Failure Analysis (FA) to understand root cause of the issue pertaining to Design/Process/Part-quality and drive the responsible teams for corrective and preventative action. • Communication: Synthesize information on the program (product readiness for mass-production, factory readiness, scenario projections, relevant trade-offs, impact on development goals) into concise communication for Senior Management. • Provide regular VP level communication of technical health of program. • Utilize statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC, and process capability) to ensure processes/equipment are scalable and are continuing to perform once qualified. • Failure/Data Analysis - Plans, develops and implements technically complex procedures for the testing and evaluation of soon to be released products. Specifies test to be performed, compiles data and makes recommendations for product design changes and final assembly standards. This will include the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles. • Travel internationally up to 25%.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in engineering and manufacturing.
- BS in related Engineering field
Preferred Qualifications
- Meaningful experience in introducing products into manufacturing (high volume production and international OEMs highly desired)
- Excellent project management skills, especially in deliverables like Planning, Cost, and Delivery.
- Knowledgeable in crafting equipment qualification requirements, design of experiments, and failure analysis
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles favorable
- Experience working in a matrix organization with multiple stakeholders
- Direct experience leading any of the following functional engineering teams a plus: Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Test Engineering
- Knowledgeable in tolerance stack ups for assemblies and part level
- Engineering design and strong knowledge of GD&T principles a plus
- Working knowledge of pneumatics, servomotors, PLC and PC-based control systems a plus
- JMP, Minitab & Six Sigma experience a plus
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $122,300 and $184,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
