Apple Data Platform powers analytics and ML engineering for Siri, Search, and other ML features we all love in our Apple products. The mission of the Data Platform org is to provide our ML engineers and data users a secured, reliable, and easy-to-use infrastructure for ingesting, storing, processing, and interacting with data and ultimately enable teams across Apple on building their data-intensive and AI/ML applications. You will work with many cross-functional teams and lead the strategy of technical projects with the ultimate purpose of improving cost and platform efficiency for Apple Data Platform. We are looking for engineering leaders who are passionate about finding insights and opportunities on optimizing platform performance and efficiency with methodical data-oriented approach.

Description
You will be responsible for driving the overall platform efficiency function for Apple Data Platform. Using proper data science techniques, you will analyze performance and efficiency for different data services, identify needed metrics for observability, automate dashboards with data pipelines, identify cost optimization opportunities, apply proper ML models and forecasting techniques for cost attribution, pricing model, and budgeting purposes, evaluate 3rd party vendors for price-performance comparisons, etc. As part of Apple Data Platform, you will engage with many leaders across Apple and present your findings with leadership influence. Responsibilities include: Identify optimization opportunities and define strategies for overall cost and performance efficiency for Data Platform Define and collaborate with infra teams for roadmap and requirements on observability and benchmarking Build data pipelines and automate dashboards to enable efficiency programs Define strategy for Data Platform cost efficiency, including usage attribution model, infra cost optimization, and budget spend forecasting Regular presentations of insights to senior executives Market research and data analysis for better cost/performance alternatives including 3rd party vendor tools Foster a healthy, inclusive, collaborative, and data-driven culture
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of data science experience
- 6+ years of experience in big-data-related domain. Proficient in data platform technologies, performance analysis, cost optimization and platform efficiency strategies
- Being data-oriented and able to apply proper approaches in data collection, analysis, forecasting, and defining actionable insights
- Communication and presentation skills to senior executive is a must. Able to collaborate cross-functionally with program managers and engineering leaders
- Experience in influencing and driving key opportunities for platform efficiency across diverse stakeholders
- Passionate about operational excellence through proper automation and data engineering processes
- Superb problem-solving skills, and able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- BS, MS, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with open source data science tooling (like Notebook, Tableau, Superset)
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, security, data privacy, and finance operation is a big plus
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
