Description

Our Places Data Team ingests, ranks, and conflates large geospatial data-sets containing places information, photos, reviews, and more. We augment this data using powerful machine-learning techniques at scale. We take innovative approaches to address unique problems, using our years of geospatial knowledge, systems expertise, and product development experience. As a member of this team, you can expect among other things to: - Be responsible for the design and architecture of the Places data pipeline to enable rapid integration of various LLM and computer vision based machine learning solutions. - Seek opportunities and develop scalable algorithms for efficient, automated data generation and data curation, minimizing the need for manual corrections. - Take ownership for enriching all aspects of our places data (location, metadata, images and media) to power user experiences that delight billions of users across all Apple platforms. - Engage with various engineering, HI and Product teams to help set the strategic direction of Apple Maps and other products. - Communicate timelines and set expectations with multi-functional team members to help clarify and manage varying factors. - Drive the investigation and resolution of high product impact issues. - Mentor and advise junior as well as other senior coworkers through their explorations, including giving guidance on when to try something new.

Key Qualifications

  • Proficiency in applying AIML techniques (classical and deep-learning based) for data augmentation and refinement.
  • Experience with pioneering techniques (including LLMs and foundation models) in solving both NLP and Vision-domain problems.
  • Expertise in architecting sophisticated, multi-stage data pipelines to enable real-time and batch processing of data for user facing features.
  • Hands-on experience in data-mining of large spatial and media data sets for training and tuning large scale ML models.
  • Writing high-performance, production-oriented code using languages such as Scala, Java, and/or Python.
  • Data engineering experience building consumer or enterprise scaled features which empower discovery, navigation, or other place or location-based solutions.
  • Experience as a technical lead; demonstrating strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Willing to take responsibility and end-to-end ownership of features and drive key architectural decisions.
  • Committed to encouraging an open and inclusive work environment
  • Ability to communicate optimally, collaborate, and build long-term relationships across the organization.
  • Ability and desire to mentor others in achieving engineering excellence and to be a catalyst on the team for adoption of ML approaches.

Education & Experience

MS or PhD in computer science, mathematics, or related fields and 12+ years of experience.

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $207,800 and $378,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
