In this role, you will collaborate with senior technical talent and leaders across Apple to build and deploy forward-looking Compute platforms that support Apple products and services. We are seeking an Engineering leader to lead & grow engineering and research initiatives to help build Apple Cloud Compute. You will lead highly performant teams that will research, align, architect, drive, and build solutions to support Apple Cloud Engineering efforts with a specific focus around Apple's world-wide cloud batch platform that supports Apple's R&D. This role is highly technical and is expected to contribute to the virtualized networking layer of the platform.

Description

The compute organization runs a multi-region, large-scale, in-house-developed, batch platform that empowers Apple's R&D around the world. You will manage and organize the team that works on the platform. In this role you will: Lead the engineering team, as it works in collaboration with the other teams across the world. Design, implement, debug, and benchmark core virtual networking infrastructure (both services and core systems components). Write and review code, generate and review design documentation Participate in qualifications and rollouts of software to production clusters Participate in local business-hours rotation where engineers respond to platform issues for same-day resolution Work with a wide range of software and hardware engineering teams across Apple to support their workflows or integrate their technology into our platform

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience leading an engineering team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with SDN, OpenVSwitch and networking protocols (or with low systems, kernel development and virtualization)
  • Strong systems programming skills and knowledge of operating system fundamentals
  • 5+ years of experience in system software development
  • MS in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent work experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing and managing a large-scale cloud production system.
  • Customer focused thinking and strong problem solver with attention to detail.
  • Experience with measuring, analyzing, and optimizing performance.
  • Fluency in Golang, Python, or similar languages in a systems or distributed systems context.
  • Strong understanding of concurrency, parallelism, and distributed systems concepts.
  • Experience with large scale server provisioning and maintenance.
  • Prior experience of working with diverse hardware, operating systems, container runtimes (lxc, docker, containerd) and virtualization stacks (Qemu, KVM, Libvirt on x86, ARM)

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,000 and $272,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
