Bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish. We're looking for a passionate software engineer to drive Contacts frameworks and syncing on iOS & macOS! Contacts is essential infrastructure adopted by virtually every app that interacts with people. Beyond powering every phone call, message, and email, our frameworks are used by third-party developers, enterprise apps, and system services to manage and access user relationships. From your Calendar invites to your calling experiences, from Photos people recognition to your favorites, Contacts is there, working behind the scenes to create seamless experiences. In this role, you will build the foundations of Apple's communication user experiences, with high potential to innovate: - Driving contacts sync reliability to 99.999% with CloudKit & CardDAV. - Upholding Apple's privacy ideals through the use of strong encryption and data protection. - Designing API to efficiently and expressively manage people, relationships, and communication preferences. In this role, your responsibilities will include: - Designing, implementing, and maintaining Contacts database storage, sync, and frameworks. - Working mostly in Swift and Objective-C on protocols, frameworks, and daemons. - Learning from and mentoring peer engineers. - Planning and delivering cross-functional work with partner teams, including the Phone app team, CloudKit team, and Contacts Server team. This team has a duty to shape and drive Apple's communication user experiences. We fulfill our duty by caring deeply, living on our software, developing defensible opinions on what to keep / what to change, and having empathy for the countless users across the world who rely on us every day.

The Contacts team is a passionate collection of engineers who are looking for a motivated software engineer with aspirations to build powerful products that change our customers' lives, cultivate learning, and lead cross-functional efforts to success. This team's products are deeply important to Apple users and our success depends on partnership, technical leadership, and diverse experiences!

Minimum Qualifications

  • You possess strong software development and design skills.
  • You have strong object-oriented programming skills in Swift or Objective-C.
  • You have strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • You are self-directed and can solve problems independently.
  • You have experience adopting CloudKit or CardDAV.

Preferred Qualifications

  • You have expertise in CloudKit, CardDAV, or Exchange sync.
  • You have designed and built infrastructure to drive sync to high levels of reliability.
  • You have experience with databases (SQLite/CoreData/SwiftData), API development, threading, data structures, performance, and battery life.

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
