The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) Commerce group is looking for an extraordinary back-end Java software engineer to join our Payments Experience software engineering team. The Commerce team provides the transactional engine for App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+ and more. Our platform is the highest volume digital content store in the world, serving billions of transactions daily in more than 130 countries. On the Commerce Payments Experience team, you'll build back-end services and capabilities, shared across iPhone, Mac and Web, that support extremely high levels of transactional integrity, scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and security that allow our customers to purchase and subscribe to Apple media products all over the world. You will also contribute to the architecture, design and implementation of top-level user facing features, with an emphasis on identifying components that can be used across different scenarios, domains and regions of the world. You should have in-depth experience developing large-scale relational database backed Java applications, with object-oriented expertise. An excellent understanding of relational databases and Java services are key, and Cassandra or other NoSQL knowledge are a plus. We partner with a variety of cross and multi-functional team members from a diverse array of other exciting groups across Apple. Minimum Qualifications
- BS degree, preferably in Computer Science or related experience. MS or equivalent preferred.
- 5+ years in software development experience in Java, with a strong understanding of Object oriented concepts and design.
- Deep knowledge and experience using relational databases such as Oracle, and associated data architecture and modeling.
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful/RPC API and services.
- Strong production, debugging, and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working on complex problems and distributed systems where scalability and performance are extremely important (every millisecond counts), with an eye for engineering excellence.
- Able to thrive in a high trust environment with independence, while effectively collaborating with cross-Apple teams, hardware, software, and across diverse roles.
- Willing to take ownership and set direction, and thrive navigating any ambiguity in your projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience writing components/frameworks/libraries that achieve software leverage
- Experience working in a large code base in Java (many millions of lines of code)
- Experience with relational database frameworks like JDBC, and object relational frameworks like Hibernate, JPA, etc.
- Experience using NoSQL solutions like Cassandra, Voldemort, Memcached, etc.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests with frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, etc.
- Experience with protocols like HTTP, HTTPS, SSL
- Experience with scalable message queue systems like Kafka, KubeMQ, RocketMQ is a plus.
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
