Within Materials PD, the Coating Materials team features a cast of sharp, collaborative engineers who cover all aspects of coating science. We are seeking an accomplished Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) Engineer with expertise in thin film coatings to help take Apple products to the next level. Could this be you?

Description
As a Senior PVD Engineer within the Coating Materials Product Design team, you will drive the rapid advancement of thin film coating materials --designs and processes that are the building blocks of our devices. You will thrive with a team of multi-functional engineers and external vendors to design, develop, implement, validate and scale new coating solutions for Apple products, pushing the limits of performance and creating unique aesthetics. You'll rely on your material and process fundamentals, creativity and team-work skills to solve ambitious problems through deep analysis to help to deliver the best coating solutions and products to our customers.
- PhD in Physics, Material Science or related fields
- 10+ years relevant experience working in thin film interference coating design
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to independently plan, drive and deliver projects
- Flexibility and comfort working in a dynamic environment
- Experience working internationally with coating suppliers and applicators
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thin film interference coating design for a variety of substrates (eg. glasses, polymers) in both planar and 3D geometries, and with cosmetic and functional requirements
- Expertise with PVD processes, especially sputtering and evaporation
- Experience with thin film characterization methods
- Consistent record translating multi-functional requirements and constrains into coating designs
- Experience developing and qualifying coatings at a consumer electronics scale
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis
- Strong materials fundamentals and a clear grasp of structure - property - performance relationships
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
