Program Managers on our Strategic Data Solutions (SDS) team deliver process and analytic solutions that have a strategic impact on Apple. They drive decision automation using advanced models and algorithms that allow Apple to execute with greater speed, control, efficiency, and scale. They help realize business opportunities and balance operational trade-offs. They are expected to lead across multiple functional teams to conceptualize, build, and deliver these automated and forensic decisions. These decisions require continuous problem-solving, rapid learning, excellent communication, and an innovative mindset. Apple's Strategic Data Solutions (SDS) team is seeking an experienced technical program manager to support machine learning engineers as we fight fraud, enable sales, and drive operational efficiencies for AppleCare. This role provides an opportunity to exercise interpersonal, organizational, technical, analytical, and leadership skills. In this role, you will help create and drive strategic roadmaps and coordinate quick tactical responses.

Description

PMs conceptualize, build, and deliver analytic solutions that enable Apple to provide exceptional products and services to its customers with greater speed, control, efficiency, and scale. They use analytics and machine learning to nurture new innovations, to support new product offerings, and to balance design / operational tradeoffs. Partnering with a variety of product, engineering, and operations teams, they must demonstrate business acumen, communicate clearly with business leaders, and bring structure and clarity to uncertain situations with competing priorities. Most importantly, the best PMs are amazing teammates, effective and considerate leaders, and champions of an empowering and inclusive team culture. The PM role includes: • Working collaboratively with our team of machine learning engineers, software engineers, analysts, and project managers. • Developing partnerships with key stakeholders across a variety of Apple teams to support current and future initiatives. • Identifying new business opportunities and developing solutions that balance impact, cost, resourcing, timeline, success likelihood, and risk. • Translating business needs into well-defined technical requirements. • Diving deep into the details on analytical projects and critical metrics. Expert ability to dive deep with the team to solve complex challenges. • Developing and prioritizing analytics projects. • Managing, interpreting, and communicating business-critical metrics. • Providing day-to-day project management that includes: coordinating activities by internal & external teams, tracking progress towards milestones, continuously adapting plans to changes, and keeping teams and leadership updated on status. • Leading regular communication with teammates, partners, and leadership and conducting periodic reviews with executive sponsors. • Drives projects from inception through release and monitoring. • Works under limited supervision, uses good judgment, and knows when to seek guidance. • Continually identifies and drives opportunities for process improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any quantitative field (engineering, math, computer science, finance, or similar), or equivalent experience.
  • Experience organizing and leading cross-functional technical projects (clarifying requirements, resolving conflicts, defining roadmaps, driving progress).
  • Demonstrable ability to think broadly about business, customer, and system impact.
  • Ability to learn and provide in-depth evaluations of complex engineering and analytic issues.
  • Skilled at using data to present, advocate for, and prioritize among solutions.
  • Experience motivating and empowering others to do their best work.
  • Proven ability to lead change through positive influence of co-workers, leadership, and business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with engineering, data analysis, and applied machine learning for operations.
  • MBA or Masters in quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics, or equivalent professional experience.
  • The ideal candidate is inquisitive and has a desire for continued self-improvement and development of new skills.
  • Eager to take on leadership responsibilities.
