The Apple Service Engineering Traffic team is looking for an experienced manager who is capable of leading multiple teams working in the Traffic space. This leader will lead & grow engineering and research initiatives to help build Traffic systems at Apple Scale. You will lead highly performant teams that will align, architect, drive, and build solutions to support Apple Cloud Engineering efforts. The candidate should have experience developing large-scale systems. They will get to bootstrap, enhance and deliver the world largest traffic control plane which serves hundreds of millions of users in support critical multi-billion dollar businesses at Apple.

Core Responsibilities * Lead multiple teams of highly-skilled engineers, empowering and enabling them to deliver the best traffic management solutions (API Gateways, Load Balancing, DNS and Certificate Automation, Traffic Shaping, etc). * Define, prioritize, and deliver on a prioritized roadmap for this space. * Nurture an environment that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and creativity. * Develop and evolve the team's processes, values, and culture, with a focus on camaraderie, efficiency and simplicity. * Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, with an emphasis on coaching and career development. * Drive adoption of the solutions developed in this team across ASE and beyond.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 10+ years of management experience in software engineering, track record of building and managing engineering teams.
- 15+ years of software development experience in highly scalable distributed services.
- Deep understanding of traffic management at scale for HTTP and gRPC APIs.
- Strong hands-on experience with Layer-7 traffic proxying (Nginx, Envoy, etc), load-balancing and control plane technology (service meshes).
- Strong communication skills, with multiple cross-functional engineering and non-engineering partners.
- Experience operating workloads across multiple cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP).
- Strong experience with modern containerization platforms such as the Kubernetes ecosystem.
- Exposure to end-to-end routing of traffic in a complex ecosystem - from CDNs to application instances via multiple hops.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Java or Go and their ecosystem.
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $219,300 and $378,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
