The Strategic Design Engineering team creates innovative products and accessories by employing a diverse range of strategies and tactics. They push the boundaries of what was previously thought feasible in terms of features, cost, and performance. We are looking for an experienced and capable individual to join our small but growing team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in mechanical product development and be comfortable leading a full product development cycle, taking on various responsibilities throughout the process.

Description

Create mechanical system architecture(s) for new and existing products Partner with ID and product marketing to balance and deliver feature set at a competitive total cost Define overall system requirements for supplier-based build-to-spec projects. Conceptual design to communicate architecture ideas and features to suppliers Document design & performance specifications, and required test protocols. Drive all aspects of NPI with key cross-functional partners including EE, GSM, Reliability, Safety and Operations Data analysis and reporting from factory builds for design validation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar field).
  • 5+ years in product development, including experience shipping products with CM and/or ODM overseas partners.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years in consumer product development, product design, or engineering program management
  • Top-notch analytical skills, with ability to toggle between detail-orientated and strategic, large-picture thinking
  • Detailed systems engineering and specification development for build-to-spec consumer electronics
  • Expertise in part cost modeling and developing a costed BOM
  • High-volume manufacturing experience, especially around acoustics, power conversion, high-voltage safety, and battery systems highly valued.
  • Thorough understanding of product development and validation cycle including use case development, risk assessment, test planning, and validation testing, and safety certification
  • Experience with supplier management & shipping high-volume consumer products via JDM/ODM with overseas development partners.

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
