The Optical Sensing Product Design team is seeking a mechanical engineer to build great experiences and bring Apple products to life. We develop sensors that change the way people interact with their technology. You will help a diverse team of talented engineers and play a key role in specifying, developing, characterizing, and validating the mechanical design of optical sensing systems. Description
You will lead the end-to-end design, development, and validation of spectral sensing technology into Apple's portfolio of products. In this role, you will work collaboratively with a talented multifunctional team to generate and validate design concepts, and as the mechanical specialist you will be responsible for engineering analysis and documentation for your piece of the project. - Identifying design tradeoffs and risks to choose viable paths forward that lead to a great customer experience. - Applying good experiment design and the scientific method to reduce design risk early. - Running tolerance studies to ensure designs are feasible over manufacturing tolerances. - Driving processes to meet Apple's high cosmetic standards. - Supporting external manufacturing vendors with process development and root cause analysis for issues found during testing, including international travel between 15% and 25%.

Minimum Qualifications
- Hands-on experience designing for a production environment.
- Familiarity with product manufacturing technologies related to sensors; High volume, consumer electronics, or sensing experience is a plus.
- 3D CAD experience (NX preferred).
- Proficiency in GD&T and tolerance analyses.
- Application of statistical tools and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to craft clear engineering documentation.
- Able to effectively collaborate with diverse team members and external vendors to define and achieve project goals.
- Minimum requirement of a bachelors degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with optical module design and packaging.
- Familiarity with FEA techniques and software packages.
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $115,700 and $174,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
