The Optical Sensing Hardware group designs sensors and illuminators for Apple products, including components of the revolutionary FaceID system and digital crown in Apple Watch Ultra. This multi-disciplinary group of engineers are responsible for architecture, design, and manufacturing development of new sensing solutions. The team is looking for someone who knows semiconductor lasers and is a dedicated go-getter. Experience with photodiodes is a plus. You will specify, develop, and validate new semiconductor components for new sensors.
Description
In this role, we focus on: - Leading multi-functional teams and engage vendors for prototyping and engineering development - Designing and process development of LED, photodiodes, and related semiconductor devices for sensing applications. - Lead in FA activities (failure mode analysis and root-cause diagnosis) and aim to successful delivery of the component. - Establish hardware test benches in the optical lab and device/system characterization to implement the design. - We analyze data to draw conclusions, enhance product design/manufacturability. In all of this work, you need to be an effective communicator - both to collaborate with multi-functional teams and present to executive management on key developments / issues.

Minimum Qualifications
- Strong device-physics background, with a solid understanding of semiconductor physics,. Knowledge and experience in III-V device development, (such as LED, Photodiodes).
- Demonstrated track record in delivering semiconductor device technologies from early concept scoping to engineering development, (high volume production is a plus).
- BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant proven experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of proven experience in a development and manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in a typical programming language (Matlab, python, etc) for modeling, data collection and analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; solid collaboration skills in a highly multi-functional team environment.
- MS or PhD in Physics, Electrical, Materials Science, or similar.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
