Description

In Materials Product Design, we strive to exceed industry standards by demonstrating creativity in problem-solving, mastery of manipulating material properties and processes to optimize performance, and the ability to deliver material solutions with intricate specifications. As a Materials Engineer specializing in Ceramics, you will work with an extraordinary team of materials experts to help develop and implement high-performance ceramic materials and processes for a wide range of Apple products. Working closely with multi-functional teams and external vendors, you will determine the best materials and processes to meet the stringent requirements for future products. The role entails close collaboration with multi-functional partners in Product Design, Manufacturing Design, and Reliability, as well as external vendors, to develop and optimize ceramic compositions and manufacturing techniques to meet Apple's rigorous functional and aesthetic requirements. Technical proficiency, the capacity for cross-team collaboration , project management, and exceptional interpersonal skills are all essential for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or Ceramics Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in ceramics industry
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects, and deliver products
  • Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills. Experience in leading project teams and development projects
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally (< 10>

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong fundamentals in materials structure-process-properties relationship
  • Experience with materials characterization and analysis methods (i.e. SEM, EDS, XRD, Raman, Spectrophotometers, etc)
  • Technical knowledge of glass, glass-ceramics or structural ceramics like zirconia and alumina
  • Familiarity with glass/ceramic material finishing technologies
  • Track record of material development for products with demanding performance requirements
  • Experience working on products with multi-functional groups (manufacturing, reliability, and others) to drive decisions that influence a product or roadmap direction.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing process development (3D printing)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including utilization of statistical tools and techniques

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $214,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
