Apple is currently seeking an enthusiastic team player to join a dynamic and collaborative group as a CAD Simulation Engineer on a human factors design team. You'll have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development and continuing improvement of Apple hardware products by driving research in 3D data analysis, measurement, and modeling from a human interaction perspective.

Description

As a member of this team-oriented, collaborative group, you will be working with designers, engineers, and researchers to perform critical analysis on 3D data using a scripting language. You'll be asked to personally present your findings and communicate what you've discovered. Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, slide presentations, and participating in working meetings are key. Your responsibilities will include the following activities: -Process, clean, and verify the integrity of 3D data. Investigate new sources that can extend and improve insights. -Write scripts to pre-process and handle data from various sources and formats using statistical analysis and visualization tools. -Develop human-device computational models to accurately simulate product interaction. -Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help identify statistical analysis and visualizations tools to understand and distill the diversity and variability of human morphology. -Create custom visualizations that help decision makers quickly understand the data. The ideal candidate for this role loves to think spatially and work with large 3D data sets using computer software tools, and is passionate about creating informative visualizations and presentations to communicate results to all levels of the company.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree of higher in an analytical field such as (but not limited to) Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, Physics, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Biological Sciences, Robotics, Climate or Environmental Science.
  • Strong programming skills in a scripting language (Python, R, Matlab, etc), processing and analyzing human-body derived scans/meshes (e.g. photogrammetry, CT, MRI).
  • 3+ years of 3D CAD and coding experience doing statistical analysis/data visualization (types of distributions, probability, regressions, convolutions, clustering, etc).
  • Equipped with deep knowledge of statistical analysis and modeling tools, along with a strong foundation in linear algebra, computational geometry, robotics control systems, optimization or computer graphics.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, patience, and aesthetic sensibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with physiology/anatomy.
  • Passionate about human-computer interaction and user-centered design.
  • Experience with designing user-studies that leverage motion capture, photogrammetry, laser scanning, force/pressure transducers and other electro-mechanical sensors/systems.
  • Experience with medical/comfort/fit/biomechanics/ergonomics research for informing commercial products.
  • Experience with computer vision and machine learning.
